THE BUCKEYE QB FIRST ROUND CURSE

Everyone is focusing on Young's size and hoping that it is not a factor.  Nobody is talking about the fact that Ohio State University has produced the following first round QBs (only 4, oddly) and there seems to be a curse!!:

Don Scott, 9th overall pick, 1941: drafted by the Chicago Bears.  Scott went to war as an Air Force Pilot and died in a plane crash during a training mission in England.  He never played a down in the NFL.

Art Schlichter:  4th overall PICK, 1982 draft. He was a bust. For his career, a total of 13 games with the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts, he completed 45% of his passes and threw 11 interceptions and only 3 TDs. He went to prison for gambling and other stuff.  Was released at age 61 last year.

Dwayne Haskins:  15th overall selection, 2019. In college in 2018, threw for 5,308 yards and 54 touchdowns.  WOW.  To Compare, in 2022, Stroud threw for 3688 and 41 touchdowns--that is a difference of over 100 yards and 1 TD pass per game.  Haskins busted.  Tragically, was hit by a dump truck and killed last year.

Justin Fields:  11th overall selection, 2021 Draft.  So far the most successful, Fields has thrown 21 interceptions in the 25 games he has started in Chicago.  Of those 25 starts, the Fields led Bears have won 5 games.  His career passing percentage is below 60% and he is averaging less that 1 TD pass per game started.  So far, he is OSU's best NFL product at QB.

The Buckeye curse is alive and well.   DO WE WANT TO TAUNT IT?

Well you have a very undersized college player and you have Stroud, who is more prototypical, and you have a team that had a choice kept Fields and the horrible record over either of those guys.

And someone will fall. There are gonna be a couple of decent QBs come out of this draft but I am not sure it is either of these top two.
That’s what we are dealt, we have to play it. Stroud if I am forced. Noticeable better arm and accuracy and is not 5’10” 185.

Just to add some fuel to the fire I plugged Bryce and CJ into a Body Mass Index calculator. Bryce I measured at his combine weight and listed weight at Alabama. The results kinda surprising:

  • Bryce Young combine BMI: 29.3
  • Bryce Young Alabama BMI: 27.8
  • CJ Stroud combine BMI: 26.7

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
Overweight = 25–29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

Meaning Young has more body mass than Stroud even at his reported playing weight. So who are you more afraid for on a football field? The short, stockier guy or the taller one who is 10-20 pounds heavier?

C.J. Stroud is taller than Bryce Young and will probably add weight that will not hinder him but if Young adds needed weight, it will slow him down somewhat, hurting the part of the game his playing style depends on.

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
    • Not even close!!! BURNS was a one trick pony who had a big game or two a year in the sack collum and was invinsible the rest of the time....   Heck hes gonna be the Giants fourth best rusher this year.
    • XL went to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  One that features a weak passing O and bad overall QB play on the season.   XL is getting way too much hate IMO.   He had an okay rookie season all things considered.   Very much on par w/ prospects that projected around the same area with him.   Panthers made a 2nd rounder a first round technicality for that contract.  XL also getting this weird kicker type blame for games.  XL somehow single handedly lost us games on one play.....and then we ignore the rest of the team that went about losing the game for 4 quarters.   Should he of caught the Philly ball? 100%.  The O and D still played like garbage that entire game.  Even after the drop, Panthers had two shots starting w/ a 3rd and 4 to convert.  They kept playing bad instead.  And even if we XL made the play....Philly would have had a minute and half to get into FG range to win it.  Who is banking on the Panther D getting that stop?  also, I am deemed Mr. Negative, yet here I am defending a no good dirty Gamecock lol
