Draft lottery talk

He's 59% between 0-9 ft, and ~roughly 42% from 15-19. He's young and has improved his shooting over the course of 2 years. He's incredible at getting to the basket and creating. I think you could make him PG and slide Lamelo to the 2 spot and cook.

One thing I have learned in basketball, is that when you are at the top of the draft you take the best player period, not the best fit.

Are you saying Scoot is more talented than Miller?

I think they are on the same level. Miller can score all over the court. He also shown he has the ability to get to the rim and poster centers. He's also 6'9.

What makes Scoot so much more talented?

Scoot's age and sheer superstar upside is just something you don't pass on to take Brandon Miller, who's got question marks outside the game of basketball in itself.  Miller would be a colossal mistake.

And I know he wasn't the killer, I'm not saying we're all saints, but still, being the one who brought the murder weapon, at the behedst of the shooter (Miles), confirmed via text, well, to the eventual murder scene just scares the crap out of me.

There's just so much weirdness to the whole story, I would just stay far and away from him if it were me.  Morant's whole ordeal right now is about flashing and pretending to be all tough whereas Miller's circle actually had a straight up shootout killing.

This is an easy call.  Scoot all day, every day.

What problems does he have off the court?

If he committed a crime why isn't he in jail right now?

Say you and I were friends and I asked you to bring me my gun. You bring me my gun and I commit a murder. Do you think you are a criminal for bringing your friend a gun?

Cmon man you sound ridiculous let this kid live. He did nothing wrong. Blame the guy who committed the murder.

And honestly, I would not even bother re-signing Bridges and dare I say even consider trading Lamelo at this point for a fortune.  I just don't Lamelo isn't bringing rings to the QC and this team is far from competing.  New owner, new coach, new star all needed.

Find the best stud complimentary pieces for Scoot to get in return for Lamelo and some future unrestricted 1sts.  Ayton+Cam, Jabari Smith+Eason, I don't know, but I'd rather position this squad for a rework than continuing to try and build something around Ball.

So blow up our entire core for Scoot and start over.

Sounds like a hell of a plan!

There is no core.  This team is not good.  Mark looks good.  I'll give us that.

And re: Miller-- That's was his crowd and he drove the gun to the crime so I don't know what to tell you.  If that doesn't give you pause beyond the obvious on-court Scoot edge, then fine.  It makes me crazy nervous.

Him not being the one to start the bullet spray & murder doesn't somewhere warrant us to just ignore the situation.  Like, how can anyone ignore this?

Especially given the current culture and situation around guys like Ja.  Nah bro.  I'm being judgemental, but a mother's life was taken here.  I'm not getting near that, especially after this whole Miles ordeal.

The question is, if you're an NBA GM, do you want to give this guy millions of dollars and trust to build a team around.  It's not about being vs. not being a criminal.

Me, I'm staying away.  No questions asked.  Just not even getting near that.

Has he improved his shooting? I thought he didn’t improve as expected, and that’s why Miller caught up to him. I’ve never watched him and barely watched any college ball last season, so I’m just trying to get some more info. Overall I’m super apprehensive to pick someone that is not a good to great 3 point shooter already. That’s where the game is at.

He only has one season in the G-League. I think he is 50% on midrange jumpers and below 30% on 3 point shots but he doesn't take many 3 point shots. His best attribute is his explosiveness and getting to the rim like Melo. He just looks like a superstar guard and has that IT factor. When you are top 3 in the draft, you take BPA which is Scoot.

It's called accessory to murder. It's a thing. Amazing what being a star at a huge college in a backwards part of the country can get ya out of.

The classic if he is guilty why he not in jail argument holds no water.  Only poor people are in jail. The rich walk or if rich people are protecting you you good too.

I'm done making assumptions about Miller but if two prospects are fairly equal I'm gonna take the one that didn't nearly derail his career with his choice of "friends"

Bro the law already said he's innocent. Not sure why you still stuck on that situation. Something tells me if you had your kid in this same situation you wouldn't be saying the same thing.

Kind of easy to attack a kid you don't know personally. Does he have other stuff on his background that you know about?

Bringing a friend his gun doesn't seem like a big deal to me. But hey go ahead and keep talking about his unknown case lol...

Not to mention, you think there would be a remorseful reaction yet he decided to orchestrate that super poor taste "frisk" floor introduction where they pretended a cop was patting him down a week after the killing.  Sure, they claimed they were staging a TSA precheck "clear for takeoff" but it smelled so bad.

At best tone deaf, at worse, I...I just don't know.  Who would want that?

Again, we can all make bad calls, make mistakes, but when someone shows you who they are, best believe them.  Oats and that whole team just seems really cruddy

When have I brought up his guilt/non-guilt? I'm not speaking to that. I specifically qualified my statement saying we all make mistakes.  There's an inherent risk here just by who he's rolling with.

What I'm saying I want him nowhere near this team.  Doesn't matter if he gets convicted of anything or not.  I don't need a crime to qualify someone.  I am admitting I'm being judgemental, but when you're talking leading a franchise, why take this type of risk?

Again I ask the super athletic guards like Ja/Russ/Rose/Wall all sell tickets but none of them win championships.

If the goal is to bring excitement to Charlotte then draft Scoot. We can market him just like Ja/Russ/Rose/Wall. If you actually trying to build a competitive roster then you take Miller and he fits like a glove with Melo. He also has superstar potential like Scoot because he can get his shot and make 3's on a consistent basis. This is a 3point league.

    • I always just go back to what I said at the time. Trade Burns to the Rams because it's a fantastic deal. I was screaming it. I'm still angry at Fitt over that. Right after he turned down the deal I said he needed to get into a time machine and go back and make the deal. Hate that dude. Ruined our team. Trading D.J was a major mistake because what matters most in the NFL is the passing game, so you never unload a proven #1 WR when there are other options. Always trade a defensive player over a WR if you have that option available. Fitt was precious about defensive players when we had a passing offense that didn't function. That's how know he was completely incompetent. The passing offense is the top priority, so until that is functioning all defensive players are possible trade fodder. At this point we're in a rebuilding year under a new GM and a QB who looks absolutely horrendous. It makes perfect sense, if you follow all of our moves, that we would be the worst team in the NFL. Of course we are. You can't screw up as a GM that many times over the years and not ruin the franchise. We're exactly where we should be, dead last, or bottom 3. Whichever you like. But this is the here and now. Dan did a good job getting our 2nd round pick back, and we won't know about the picks until they take the field in regular season games. We're in dark until then, but if they suck the Panthers media will hide it shamelessly. Remember when Young was supposed to be a football genius? Yeah he was rancid turds out there when live fire started. There is some hope. Either Young improves and we win more games, or he stays about the same and we draft a new QB in 2025. Either way the NFL will help us out of this jam, but all we need is for Dan not to screw it up.
