He counts according to CapFriendly. His cap is listed and they dropped Canes available cap from ~2.8 mil to a little over $2 mil to account for his cap hit. I’m no expert just what I saw there.

Yeah capfriendly is good with the numbers but they don’t know exactly who and who won’t make the team.

Mendel, Rees, Ponomarev, and Suzuki all have two-way’s meaning they can be sent down without counting toward the cap and all are waiver exempt.

Kochetkov is the only question mark not on an ELC and while he is waiver exempt and can be sent down, we get hit with a buried penalty if we do send him down.

Just a quick explanation cause I’m bored.

- A player under 25 must sign an ELC Two-Way contract as their first NHL contract. The number of years of the contract is determined by the players age. Mendel is 24 so his ELC is only one year. The Two-Way contract allows Carolina to transfer him down to Chicag… I mean wherever, without any repercussions regarding the salary cap.

- Waiver exemption is a little different and a player can be waiver exempt even if they aren’t on their ELC anymore. It’s tough to explain and the best thing to do is to just use the waiver calculator. As mentioned above, Kochetkov is waiver exempt but if we send him down we still get hit with a percentage of his cap because he’s no longer on a two-way.

For anyone interested, here’s the waiver calculator.

I see Ethan Bear remains unsigned. I hope someone gives him a shot. Will likely never be a top 4, but he could definitely fill a 3rd pair spot.

He's a good guy- wish him the best.

He’s probably not getting signed right now. He got injured in the world championships and had to have shoulder surgery. He probably won’t be able to play until December at the earliest.

Someone may add him after he’s healthy.

So what I’m reading seems to indicate Tarasenko signing wasn’t a done deal yesterday. If it was we would have had confirmation by now or at least other sources confirming. Talk of Ottawa if they can move deBrinkat. Could be what’s slowing down his decision. Supposedly agent was talking to six teams at one point.

A “sounds like” tweet is not a confirmation. I’m waiting for that.

Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been bailed on, Marchment last year comes to mind.

Yeah, that will get updated and he won't count against the NHL cap.  Much like the other AHLers we have signed.

The noise on Karlsson trade on Twitter has died down drastically. Like his trade talk fell into a black hole.

Because as of the other day, SJ was only willing to retain 20% of EK's contract. The only two teams interested seriously are Pitt and Carolina. Both need SJ to retain more plus add a third team to retain even more.
