Who is the next Matt Schuab?

I'm not sold on Leinart either.

Kevin Kolb, however, looks to have what it takes to be a quality starter in the league.

I might throw out Billy Volek's name into the mix. I know I'll be flamed for this, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tyler Thigpen, and how about one of Schaub's backup -- Dan Orlovsky?

Colt Brennan?

Orlovsky was beaten out by Rex Grossman for the backup QB spot....so NOOOO

I love Volek as a stop gap, but he is not a Schaub, in the fact that he is not the answer.

Look at someone else on that Chargers roster. Charlie Whitehurst. Not saying that he could get hot like Schaub has, but he does have the tools, he has sat for a few years, he has had the best QB coach in the game for 3 years, and he would be pretty cheap.

Again, not sure if it's all there up top for him, but he would be the best "gamble" in the league right now.

Strange that no one has bashed/questioned/agreed with the name I tossed out there...guess I need to go back to the tinderbox.

I will bite. I kinda forgot about Whitehurst. NFL bloodlines. Isn't there a metric or axiom that the longer the name the worse the qb you are?

I could be wrong.

If the Eagles would take a 3rd rounder for Kolb I'd do it. McNabb has 3 more years at least IMO unless he goes down. So the Eagles IMO would be smart to get what they can for Kolb because he isn't going to want to resign with them if he can get out of there to start for a team like us...

I would love it myself. He went to my alma mater, Clemson. I got to watch him for his entire career. He doesn't have the strongest arm but I think he has a good head on his shoulders and he is a good leader. I wouldn't mind this at all.

I think you would have a better chance at luring away Peyton Manning from the Colts than getting Kolb from the Eagles. Now Vick on on the other hand.......

Exactly they drafted him to be the QB of the future. So now they are supposed to let him go for less then what they gave for him (2nd rounder)? Not likely I think Mcnabb has the better chance of playing for a different team then Kolb next season.

what about seneca wallace? wouldnt he be pretty cheap and has some starts. i have not watched him all that closely but i know when i have seen him he has done ok. it would be nice to have a qb who could pick up the third and 7 with his legs if needed instead of a rb draw. as a patch until we groom someone else. is that a terrible idea?

He supposedly has the "strongest" arm on the Chargers roster. Not saying that I am buying that, but that is the word out of SD. He is pretty much in the worst QB position in the NFL, except for learning from Norv and Rivers....and that little thing about living in So California.

Rivers has never missed a start, and he has little hope of leap frogging Volek. I could see him being lured away for a 3 or 4.

His biggest knock as a Tiger, was his inconsistency. 350 and 3 TD's one game and 3 INT's the next...maybe sitting for a while has helped that.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
