Deion was gonna be a bust is what they said before the season. Colorado was a 20 point underdog.

Im just tired of the excuses from UNC fans. We can't hype Maye and he not show up. He struggled late down the stretch last year. Im expecting better from "arguably" the best QB in college football.

Is they referring to the media? When has the media been right about anything? TCU lost their QB, both of their top RB’s, and their number one WR… only a fool would have had Colorado as 20 point dogs. As a Carolina basketball fan (in addition to being a Carolina football fan), I can confirm that preseason rankings mean jack poo.

Maye isn’t the team, if he was then we’d be fine. But you can’t win consistently giving up 40 points in a game, if you could then Lincoln Riley would have won the CFP’s by now.

Maye set all sorts of records last year in his first year as the starting to QB and to hold him responsible for wins and losses when he throws for 350 yards and 3 TD’s is asinine.

They are the North Carolina Tar Heels not the North Carolina Drake Maye’s.

You realize we are on Nat'l tv because of Maye?

You think College Gameday came to Charlotte because of the UNC Tarheels defense?

Maybe better ball out this season is all im saying.

Of course they are here for him, he’ll ball out but if Chizik can’t find a way to get pressure on the QB or stop the run then we are toast.

For reference, Matt Rhule’s QB that everyone said is trash on Thursday torched us last year.

Im just a fair minded UNC fan. Im not like the other homers. I call it like I see it.

Caleb Williams has a bad defense as well. Nobody making excuses if you're The Guy you're expected to live up to the hype.

Bright lights on it's time for Maye to shine baby!

In case you're wondering we are a ranked team. This is not a bad team here. You act like Maye is trying to carry a bunch of bums.

And the UNC OL doesn’t matter?  It’s a team sport but I will be surprised if SC doesn’t win this game

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
