Any Of You Think Riley Skinner Could Be A Good Fit Here?

I'm a fan of Skinner actually, especially for the type of offense the Panthers currently employ (new coach, new philosophy, all bets are off). If you want to play smash mouth, you need a QB who isn't so much a deep threat as he is one who can consistently spread the ball around quickly with short passes. This puts more emphasis on leadership and accuracy rather than arm strength, two things that Skinner does exceptionally well. You can complain about his arm strength all you want, but it is truly a moot point unless you want to completely change the way the Panthers play offense rather than improve it.

BTW, all the ladies can google Riley Skinner and see half nude pics of him.

and a lady friend told you this....? :D

Guys say NO to skinner say NO to any QB that is not a high first round or an above average QB playing now in their 20's. Primo. No more of this average QB crap. The panthers need to put all their resources into finding that perfect QB and make a high first round/huge trade happen and happen now. Why don't we do it right instead of gamble just to be disappointing again. I will say it until draft day, get the real deal in here, get a real QB. Someone we don't HAVE to give the benefit of the doubt to. The team will flourish.

yeah to be our francise qb.I just asked a question he could be just a sgood as the rest people are naming.the draft is a gamble anyway you never known who could be that next great qb.

The draft is a gamble when you draft a QB but how does that make it excusable to draft an undersized, small-armed, weak-bodied ACC QB?

He would get DEMOLISHED in the NFL. If you watched him at Wake..he was successful because of the offense and all the gimmicky crap they pulled.

And there is no way in hell he will be as good as Ryan Mallett, Colt McCoy, hell...even The Golden Calf of Bristol.

I would not compare Riley Skinner to Chris Leak, a quarterback that has no career NFL statistics. If I was going to compare Riley Skinner to some NFL Quarterbacks, I would look at Chad Pennington, Matt Schaub, Matt Moore, but I believe he is almost a carbon copy of David Garrard.

Matt Schaub?? Are you kidding? Schaub was a Heisman finalist at Virginia of all places. He doesn't have the physical tools of a Matt Schaub. I'll give you Matt Moore and Chad Pennington (after Pennington's shoulder problems) but why would you want to draft one of those guys??

I watched every game that Riley played on TV this year, and attended a couple of them. If you believe that Wake ran a gimicky offense, then you didn't watch them. They ran a straight forward passing attack. The gimmicks (if one can call them that) were in Grobe's first few years. Riley was a standard drop back quarterback with decent mobility. They did roll him out sometimes, but they ran few "gimmick" plays. Florida runs more of a gimmick offense than Wake does.

This sound strategy worked about pretty well for the Bears.

Ok lets put it this way...If Riley Skinner is an NFL prospect then Russell Wilson is going to be good enough to be a starter. Not happening..

I never said he would be a NFL prospect, although I think he has an outside shot. But then, I think 75% of the qb's I see mentioned here will either be a career backup or never make it in the first place. The number of top college QB's that can make the leap to the nfl is very small.

But I do think he is a better prospect than either Chris Leak or The Golden Calf of Bristol. I also think that if Riley had similar career numbers at another school with more national exposure, he would be getting more mention than he is, and more respect.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
