Young Won the Job at the Pro Day Dinner

The real answer is that Bryce won the job once Reich and Fitterer decided they weren't concerned about his size and being able to hold up long term.

He blew them all away with his brain, which isn't really surprising given the QB acumen on this coaching staff, he talked about the game and the QB position in a way they have never seen from a college QB before.

Once he did that, he was always going to be the pick if they decided they were okay with how small he was.  That would have been the easy way to talk Tepper out of the decision if they didn't think he could hold up, as convincing him that he didn't have the football ability wasn't going to happen, obviously, as every analyst agreed that if Bryce was 6'2", he'd be a no brainer #1 pick and the Bears probably take him and trade Fields.

The most likely scenario is actually the opposite, that Tepper as an analytics guy was concerned about Bryce's size and Reich/Fitterer (and probably McCown) talked him into not being concerned about it because of his super brain for the QB position.  Once everyone was on board with the size concern, it really was never even a question, it was always going to be Bryce.

What you are saying makes perfect sense. They just don’t want to hear it. They want an easy target to blame and Tepper is one. They haven’t had a winning season since he bought the team so he will be blamed. I can’t blame them for being frustrated with him, but these fan theories get a little wild.

Bu Bu Bu But I thought Josh McCown said “when you move to Carolina” with Riech and Tepper standing to the side with a sh!T eating grin on their face.

this place and their conspiracies.

I wish we could get back to winning because this place has become a toxic dump the last few years.  It wasn’t even nearly this bad in 2009-2010 through the Pickle year.

Well that's the weird part to me

The "easy target" is the coach and GM who spent the entire offseason talking about how we have a contending team built and just need to insert the QB and how Bryce is the man for that job.

They're literally saying they made the decision, fans are already mad at both of them anyways, but for some reason they want to lay the blame on this one at Tepper's feet.

There was hope of a top pick then. Now that pick is in the hands of another inept franchise.

It's never been much of a secret when NFL owners are the ones who are forcing football decisions on coaches and the front office.

Jerry Jones just named himself as GM so it was never a secret

Daniel Snyder was very obvious with it as well, often times with past coaches, execs, players talking about how he made the decisions very often.

There hasn't been a single whiff of anything where the Teppers put their finger on the scale for a specific player and made the front office sign/draft them because of it.  And no, trying to have them go after Watson doesn't count as I think Tepper easily could have made the call to give him the fully guaranteed deal to get him and he decided not to.

It does count because he made it very clear that the franchise stood behind him when every other team in the NFL wanted nothing to do with him during that whole mess. We restructured contracts and made a crap ton of room for a player that never said he was coming here or even wanted to. Watson said he would play in Carolina if he had to, but he never actually wanted to play here. I'm sorry, but as a franchise, you don't stand behind an accused sexual predator with that many accusations without the owner's backing. No freaking way.

Of course that was due to the S2 and some nefarious things said about Stroud ie his intelligence and vague unsourced claims about his character.

I doubt that Carolina picked Bryce over CJ because of any S2 scores, real or imagined.  The knock on CJ, and it was a fair one, was that he struggled under pressure whereas Bryce shone under it.  Of course, game tapes tell the better story and CJ sliced and diced a great Georgia defense and so I doubt that Carolina overlooked that, they just went with the guy that they felt was better - and they may be proven correct.

As for character issues, there wasn't a wiff of any "character" issues with CJ at Ohio State.  Not a peep.

Having the owner's backing and the owner making the decision himself are two completely different things, literally not in the same universe as there isn't a GM/HC in the league who would (or even could) make a move that significant without having the owner's backing and approval.

I also think that was equally on Rhule going after him because he felt that Watson was a QB that could help him save his job.

Bryce was the top rated prospect. The team was looking for a reason to make him the easy pick. I think they had their mind made up before dinner. He’s our pick. He needs to get healthy and get out on the field. We need him to succeed or it’s another 3+ years of the last 5 years. This sucks.

Eventually Bryce is going to shine.  He's a great athlete and competitor with a lot of heart and moxy.  I think he's going to be a really good NFL QB.  I also think he's a real classy kid.  There are definitely NFL teams that lack a QB but Carolina isn't one of them.  A lot of those teams would kill to have Bryce Young.

They can’t accept they were wrong. Reich said Bryce was the guy all along so has Fitt, but that ruins the meddling owner theory. We watched a DL land on Young’s ankle and our coach say once doctors clear him he will return as the starter. No that doesn’t match their theories either. The answer is literally right there in the coach interviews but people are going to spin it however they need to in order to appear right.

hes not a great athlete though, if he is going to prove his worth is going to be by dissecting defenses

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
