Another hypothetical....

Davidson because I want Meeks to stay where he is.

Agreed plus I want him to have full control of the offense. Most HC want to have there fingers in the Offense. I believe Davidson would allow Meeks to have complete control of the defense. So we win both ways.

And I think Davidson wanted Moore to start or at least Jake to be benched. He was having to become so predictable a caveman could tell what was coming. I dont think he would let him start again but I have no idea what Meeks would do.

The offense has proven that they can succeed on sheer talent, often in spite of playcalling. The playcalling has gotten better with a more competent quarterback, but I'm still of the opinion that the offense's success is more a result of player execution than coaching. For the most part, you can't coach what Williams and Stewart do every week. You just let them run loose.

I will, however, credit him with the offensive line's success. It's impressive that in both this year and last we've had backups come in and perform very admirably.

Now, all that being said, we continue to see the defense improve with each game. Can you imagine if earlier in the season Meeks had the good fortune of simply having an offense that wouldn't put the defense in bad spot? We'd easily be looking at a top 10 defense. I won't even get into the injuries.

Meeks it is.

I say hire a special teams coach, promote Crossman and tell him under NO circumstances does he attempt to coach, all he is to do is to make sure his headsets plugged in a couple of time a game, chew gum and clap. :D

Seriously though I like Meeks only because I like smash mouth football and in the past weeks the offense has looked pretty strong, but the defense has played lights out in a short amount of time.

Between the two I would promote Davidson and let him hire Weiss as OC. Make Meeks DC and assistant head coach. Problem solved. Funny the opinions now. When I suggested making Davidson head coach if Fox left a week or two ago, I was lambasted by the Fox and Davidson haters. 5 quarters of good offense and now everything is great. The pendulum swings pretty fast around here.

I don't think anyone is really suggesting Davidson should be our head coach. Hence the "hypothetical" in the title. It's just an "if given the choice" sort of question.

I still don't think Davidson has shown much, and I think it would be a horrible idea to promote him as head coach. For the record, though, I don't know that Meeks has what it takes either.

I'm of the opinion that coordinators should be promoted after fielding one of the league's best offenses or defenses, preferably for a couple of years at least. I don't think either Davidson or Meeks has done that yet.

Still, I think Meeks has done more with less time here, so I'll go with Meeks.

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
    • These refs are horrible.  They definitely got money on this game lol.
