Server Upgrade this Offseason

Recommended Posts

I've used www.liquidweb.com for a few years now and recently upgraded to a dedicated server about 6 months ago. The support is phenomenal. I can safely say that I have never had to wait for someone to answer the phone or be put on hold for any support request and any issues or questions I've had were handled on the spot. I also cannot remember the last time I had any downtime.

They offer Linux and Windows hosting.

I have used rackspace.com and hostedsolutions.com - both good imo(HS is charlotte based) .

You can't really do much to 'upgrade' from a dual xeon(I'm assuming you mean 2 quad-cores), you're going to have to start splitting things up to multiple servers.

I'm currently an IT student. I don't have much hands on experience yet but I do know that the best server hosting option is going to be RackSpace. RackSpace is going to be the best/easiest solution. I've heard a lot of good about Amazon EC2 but I really don't know much about it.

What's the reasoning behind the Huddle bogging down right now? Is it a bandwidth or compute power issue? I'm guessing bandwidth.

I think the xeon we have is not 2 quad cores, just 1 each. Its over 2 years old. We would be moving from 2 cores to 8 cores. Should be substantial increase in performance.

    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix has only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
    • The Canes physically dominated 2 of the top 16 teams in the league this calendar month. If you truly believe Florida is just that much more physical than us, then what does that say about the rest of the league? Why didn't they go 82-0 this year, if they are orders of magnitude better than every other team?
