The Browns have offered Josh Cribbs an "insulting'' $1.4 million a year and his agents are warning that he'll leave the team for good if they don't pay him what he deserves.
"Not only is it nowhere near what Josh is worth, it's not even what the top 10 kick returners in the league make,'' said Schaffer. He said other teams told him the starting point for the Browns would probably be $2.8 million to $3.2 million.

Holmgren definitely doesn't want to lose him.

The proposal was for $1.4 million a year, not much more than what Cribbs is making now and well below that of other top kick returners in NFL. Four days later, they pulled the offer, saying Browns owner Randy Lerner wanted to wait until the new president was hired.

After Holmgren was named as president, Aponte called Schaffer and Rickert back and said, "Here's what Mike and I are thinking: $1.4 million a year.''

it won't happen... most of our offseason is gonna be spent on keeping players. But our special teams SUCKED this year. It was absolutely miserable especially in the return game. After the crappy play of Jake, ST hurt us the most. I wish we'd address it, but the most I can hope for is another 4th round draft pick being wasted on another punt returner that doesn't pan out i.e. robinson... moore... munnerlyn...

Cribbs has three years left on his deal. He's not exactly negotiating from a position of strength. Yeah, he can threaten to hold out, but lots of guys have done that before and it hasn't been all that effective.

I agree the offer is bad, but I expect a lowball number in an early volley.

Moore? Do you mean Kenneth Moore? He was a FA acquisition.

And Capt was a 7th

return guy, and possible receiving threat. imagine him and Steve Smith side by side.

Man I was just kidding about him on the other thread, Cribbs is a badass and the only thing keeping Cleveland floating. Reminds me of when Reuben Droughns was there except Cribbs is head and shoulders above Droughns. Man if we could get him possibilities/uses would be endless. Prolly too much $$$ though.

    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
    • Moton is a class act.
    • Sure, that is possible. That’s what, an extra 55 yards a game on average and 7 more TDs? What if he’s just 15th?  I imagine they would extend him in that situation due to the belief that he’ll keep trending up. maybe a 3 year contract to prove he can be top 10? Sounds like a Tepper plan.
