Crossman assistant Jeff Rodgers named new special teams coordinator

No decent candidates were going to sign knowing that Fox is likely done after this year, anyway. Rodgers probably understands how much Crossman sucked and why he was fired, so he'll probably change things for the better. Can't get much worse, anyway.

The sad truth.

we all have worked under someone and had reservations to the way they managed, and knew that when given the chance we would do better.

I hope thats true in this case.

Maybe the guy just needs a chance?

Since you cant do a 3 man wedge anymore, i could like to see a tier of two man wedges creating several different holes for the guy to run through..

Crossman was the assistant under Scotty and was promoted when he left. So we already know it can change with a promotion, good or bad. Oh well, fingers crossed. JR, that's what you get with only 1 year contracts available.

electro, it's not Fox & Co's stupidity ... it's JR's or our new president's. Should've made a decision about Fox and then we'd have more than 1 year contracts to offer.

Darin Gantt is dumb as poo. someone asked him why rodgers hire made sense and he replies "If Crossman wasn't good working under O'Brien, why is Rodgers bad after working under Crossman?"

So I told him, Crossman had the opportunity to be good learning from a good coach in O'Brien but just because he learned from someone good doesn't mean hes going to get it and its going to transfer. However if you are Rodgers and you learned from some dumbass and thats all you know then you aren't off to a very good start. Hopefully hes learned a few things before Crossman poisoned otherwise he won't be liked for very long.

He's been here one year, but all he knows about special teams is what he has learned from Crossman?

    • Totally.  They had a guy starred on their boards that made it in trade worthy range. The risk was totally worth it.  Our case was the classic of a franchise not having a QB, do what you can to get one.  That often results being thrust into a bad situation, putting crazy pressure on 1 guy, and it becomes even worse when he's not that great.  But if we find ourselves just a few spots behind a guy we really like, I don't see a problem.   We just have to see how the season shakes out and enjoy this roller coaster.  It's not pretty at times but we somehow are 5-4 haha. If Bryce turns a page and cranks out some truly QB driven wins, then maybe we do consider just rolling with him and a Dalton replacement in 2026.  Someone like a Jarrett Stidham/Tanner McKee.   However, if he stays mostly the same (whether we fall apart or he struggles on/off but we still win some), I think you have to leave to door open for a QB in the draft.  Scout and meet with the top ones, see if any really fit what D&D want.  Maybe that guy could be Mateer.  Who knows
    • I lived in that area for a minute, and 2 decades of BB and Brady made them delusional.  They think everyone is the 2nd coming of Brady and they're just on a short coffee break til the next dynasty.
    • Bryce Young hasn't cleared 200 passing yards in a single game in that window.  Meanwhile, Rico Dowdle has put together the greatest 5 game stretch of rushing production in Panthers history.   And RBs have sort of been our thing, so there is ample competition.  This team hasn't been lead by Bryce Young in that stretch. Those wins are simplistically 3 things.  Schedule, Rico, and defense.
