You can make the money better, but the situation is what it is.

You have to sell free agents on the idea that they'll be the difference maker.

I agree but reality is ppl are only coming here because we are willing to pay them the most money.. Hopefully this is a FA full of WR looking more for a big bag then a perfect situation..

Oh I get it now, you dont understand what a free agent is

Adams - traded

hill - traded

Ridley - traded

Brown - traded

Hopkins - wouldnt classify him as top tier

OBJ - most certainly wouldnt classify him as top tier

Meyers - Yeah I would take him on this team going forward

These were players who were headed to FA because their team wasn’t going to pay them .. They were available high level talent .. If you want to play semantics … The original point is to get these players by any means necessary.. Actually trading for them might be easier to force a player into this situation…

OBJ was top tier when he signed with the Browns right??

You wouldn’t classify Hopkins as top tier ?? Really??

Its not semantics, other teams had to trade valuable draft capital to get them and then pay them.  Thats not a free agent.

Neither obj or hopkins is helping this team moving forward.  obj has 24 catches on the year and hopkins is at 40.  They are way past their prime and there is no sense in giving them contracts.

A 5th round pick for Armanti Cooper valuable capital now?? That deal happened right??

Again these players were headed to FA and available.. The only difference is compensation to another team that depending on desperation could be good or bad .. Lately the compensation hasn’t been outrageous and the players has help his new team…

Again any means necessary to get proven Talent to help you develop your major investment in BY..

Hill - first round pick

Adams - first and second

and cooper signed a crazy ass deal with the cowboys which they were not going to be able to afford

I am not even sure what the fug you are arguing at this point as you are completely lost and have no clue what you are typing

Totally disagree .. The Oline has been bad this year but they need healthy consistency from the players we have and more reps for the younger players.. Maybe even a scheme change to a power run scheme … But number 1 need is get Bryce some weapons..

to be honest I don’t care! Cuz the offensive line was great at the end of Wilks! They drafted the wrong QB..and the staff has no balls to Teppper.. where is this staff?? Total BS!! and it’s totally fugged til 2025 or they bring in a vet!! I am an Eagles fan as of now!!

To be fair I was talking about, specifically, free agents. We are missing picks to offer up more picks for a great WR. So we have to go the FA route. And most top end WRs DONT hit the free agent market.

He then asked you after your comment who hit the free agent market and you listed OBJ who is perpetually injured, Hopkins who is 22nd in receiving yards as of now and Meyer who is 33 in receiving yards. Higgins is younger and more productive than both of the last few seasons. He’s going to get a nice contract.

And when they do they choose to not come here. You listed a bunch of guys that for the most part never hit the open market to allow for a bid war. Again, there are like 10 teams with more cap space than us that could use him and every single one of those teams looks more complete than us and has a better record than us and has more first round draft picks than us this upcoming draft.

The appeal here would have to be a massive overpay at the risk that his head coach is going to get fired, his OC is going to get fired, and the guy throwing him the ball might be a bust. You’d have to offer a contract that takes care of him for longer than need be, for more money than need be to lure him from those other teams.

And we still have to sign Burns and extend Brown. Eating into the cap.

    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
