can anyone tell me why...

Make cap room, they didn't actually plan on starting Jake until he was a 73-year-old. They needed to free up more space. It wont be long before we either restructure or let him go. But last season it seemed like the right thing to do from their perspective.

It sounds crazy to pay out millions to free up cap room, but you're right.

This article explains it.

I honestly think the FO is figuring out what is best especially with the next two seasons being uncapped and then a possible lockout. The owners have an understood agreement that even in the uncapped year there will be a limit, and if they go over that limit when a new cap structure is set they will be over it before the season even starts which screws that given team over. So with that in mind, what we do with Pep is going to be well thought out and planned because whether he is here or somewhere else, he will most likely become the highest payed player in the NFL. We have to be careful that we dont screw ourselves with the cap situation especially after last years debacle.

Here is what I think.

Jake Delhomme wants to be here. Julius doesn't. Jake has proven he can do whats necessary to win games. I really don't think the FO expected him to do so horrible this season. Another reason I think is the FO is probably tired with messing with peppers. He didn't want to sign long term last year. Didn't sign his tender and publicly said he wanted to go somewhere else. FO probably are like F him.

My 2 cents.

Yep. That's my take on this. Jake wanted to stay, while Pep didn't. That why it going to take time on what to do with Pep. He didn't even want to sign a long tender contract after our '07-'08 season ended, so that didn't help much later on.

We tried making him the highest defensive player in the NFl and he refused at the end of 2008. We tried again last summer and he refused again. Meanwhile we paid him as the highest paid defensive player for the past 2 years while we tried to work things out. We also groomed other guys and drafted Brown to take his place. Now Peppers says he wants to reach an agreement as long as we agree to pay him an astronomical amount and ensure he is the highest paid guy in the league although he isn't the best DE in the league. He is sixth best among DEs, some of which are getting less than half the money he got in 2009 let alone what he would get in 2010.

So finally we are moving on and deciding there is little hope to sign him long term and we have to get off the escalating spiral. So we are moving on and people wonder why? I know everyone says he is such a wonderful talent but frankly no one is worth 20 million a year let alone someone who never seems to live up to his potential. Don't get me wrong, I would surely like Peppers to stay but it is like loving someone who doesn't love you, eventually you figure it out and move on no matter how painful it may be.

    • My tailoring green idea was not for him to be the starter but to add some value beyond just a developmental quarterback I think size speed is something Bryce doesn't have he has those and would immediately feel the fourth and one package and possibly red zone and some power packages for us
    • Do you have against Willis I believe you're around when we have the draft with corral and Willis were on the board and me personally I was banging the table for Willis as early as round one but a lot of people thought corral was better but it's amazing with a little coaching and time can do with me I always go with potential and upside versus oh the guy just plays football you know sometimes that's not enough
    • I know or needs and this probably isn't with a lot of people want but if he's available at 19 I don't think you can discount that he would be the best player on the board I think with 43 speed he's as fast as leggette. 63240 something he would stretch the field  Strike fear over the middle of opposing linebackers and also probably cure our long time history of no serviceable tight end since Greg Olsen I think a lot of needs like tackle maybe linebacker could be filled and free agency to the point like they did last year where we fix a lot of this and draft the best player we can on the board.  After his combine and the numbers in the 43-in vertical I'm not sure that he will be available but if he is I bet that he's highly considered what say you
