Chris Johnson calls ROY bogus

Recommended Posts

Titans running back Chris Johnson was the only rookie to make it to the Pro Bowl. But he lost out on the offensive rookie of the year award in a landslide to Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

And Johnson doesn’t like it.

“[T]he whole thing is bogus,” Johnson said, according to Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper, ”because people are voting for it that are not on the same field as the people who are playing.

“I’m disappointed. I did all I could to win it. I feel I did the best. I feel I did all I could do to win it; it just didn’t come my way.”

The Associated Press names the offensive and defensive rookie of the year based on voting by 50 sportswriters. Ryan received 44 votes; Johnson drew only three.

I thought it was a no-brainer. If what he says is true, then Flacco would also have been considered but everyone knows the Ravens defense carried them, as well as the Titans defense. Ryan does more than pretty much any other rookie QB has in a long time. He is a leader of that team and definitely deserves it. People whine too much over petty things, especially those two RB's. I hope they get smacked in the first round.

Although it seems a silly thing to complain about, he does have a point. Chris Johnson is among the top 10 in the league at his position. Matt Ryan is not among the top 10 in the league at his position. Should Ryan get it just because he is a Quarterback?

Ryan is 11th in QB rating

Johnson is 8th in rushing yards.

QB is a far more integral position. RB is one of the least important positions because they often rely heavily on the OL whereas a QB can make an OL look good. (although the hardest to maintain success due to the physicality)

Ryan definitely deserves this award.

It has been said and proven that RB is the easiest position for a rookie to step in and succeed....while QB is the most difficult.

What Ryan did this year has been amazing. He has done much more than just manage the game...he was a difference maker. To watch him run the no huddle offense while shuffling players in and out was amazing.

This kid is the real deal and I was VERY impressed.

    • Hurney 2.0 and Fitts were so bad I don't know if it was intentional or they were that abysmally clueless. Fittershits panicked repeatedly being on the back end of positional runs while Hurney couldn't evaluate anyone outside of the 1st.  I can't figure out why Plummer still has a jersey. There's no reason. Dalton brings nothing to the table. If another QB gets cut that has given a glimmer of anything better than what we have, we should look, and that goes for every position.  I cant get over how much different this team could have been with a competent GM and having accepted the Rams offer for Burns. This franchise could have gone in a totally different direction.
    • I thought tanking wasn't actually a thing and we were firmly against it though?
    • I think they are watching to see who’s going to be available before they make theirs official. Probably working trades too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t cut anyone today.
