As much grief as I've given them, I think the Panther FO has been brilliant lately

Since I have an unfair reputation as always being a "negative nancy", I thought I would bring some encouragement to some fans by showing that even someone as cynical as me thinks the Panther FO has been nailing their decisions this past week.

Letting all these veteran, long-time Panthers go was absolutely the correct thing to do. What this team needs more than *anything* is a sense of freshness to it. All of these guys that aren't coming back are anything but fresh. When you think back to the first decade of Panther football played this millennium, what two words come to mind? For me it would be inconsistency and mediocrity. The poster children for that stale inconsistency and mediocrity are guys like Jake Delhomme and Julius Peppers.

So even if the team does NOT go out and get free agents to rebuild, I'm still going to support their moves this week. I would much rather see young guys like Matt Moore and Everette Brown and Dan Connor and Louis Leonard get chances to prove themselves like these old vets that were just released got somewhere themselves. I'd much rather see them than the same old, unexciting, stale faces of mediocrity that have REALLY depressed this fanbase over the past year.

So I hope you guys are as giddy as I am. These were tough cuts, but today is the proudest I've been to be a Panther fan in a long, long time.

Pretty much the opposite here.

We got cheaper, not better. Love that we mix a player purge with an anemic set of draft picks and no interest in free agency.

At least the organization is buffered for a work stoppage I guess.

And as soon as we lose a few games you'll resume the endless crying about how stupid everyone is.

this... sadly that is what will happen. Everyone somehow thinks they know more about the team than the team knows about the team. *sigh* Why most everyone bash the FO after we lose a game? Its the clueless that "know everything."

All these moves will be brilliant when they replace who they've cut with equal value. Right now, back-ups have been promoted to start. Some deserve it. But this means...they're no longer back-ups and if they get injured (or suck), we ain't got nobody. So hopefully over the next month we see some names come in, whether as starters or back-ups. We can't count on the draft. It's always a gamble.

The fact we cut Delhomme makes this at LEAST an B+ offseason for me. Honestly, I like the youth movement. We've been burying guys for years under Fox. Like some had said though...the Diggs move pissed me off a bit, but I guess we can't trust a "veteran" under Fox. :(

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
