Excitement back into the fan base...

Face it, there has been a slowly decreasing amount of excitement by the fan base over the past few seasons. With these new developments, for better or worse, real excitement has been injected back into Carolina football. Some of it comes with uncertainty, some with the prospect of new bright young stars rising up. Yesterday the huddle received a quarter of a million page views. This is more than any single day over the past year.

Damn that's a lot of views.

The site has been holding up well. Glad to see that the new server fixed the problem.

It felt weird seeing Jake finally go but I'm so excited to see that our FO is ready to make some changes. This season is going to be so damn refreshing and new. Good or bad, It'll be interesting.

I'm not really excited.. There are a lot of holes in the lineup and I have no idea of what is going to happen next.

2 of the most recognizable faces for our franchise had big news hit the wire yesterday of course there will be a spike in hits. Neither of them were real positive news for the Panthers. One was our former starting QB sucks and had to be cut the other was our best DE signed with another team. Neither are positive headlines for the future.

I am excited about seeing Matt Moore start, hopefully he will pick up where he left off last year.

Pretty sure that activity wasn't Panther related but more because of it being the eve of "Huddle Jamz-010 the Rumble Down Fromunda"

Matt Moore/Delhomme and the release of Peppers are the two big things that have people interested. But I want to see what they do in the future. If they shore up the defensive line, sign a receiver and the draft is interesting, I might get a little bit excited about next year. But our success will likely come down to how well Matt Moore performs. Is he our QB of the future, or was he a flash in the pan?

I think also with a no cap year brings in excitement, just with the NFL in general. There are many things teams are doing and planning to do that would not be able to happen or happen differently otherwise. Add that to a deep draft and its going to get crazy. I know the Panther are projected not to do much but at the same time I think they will do most of what they would have done anyways to at least stay competitive, for example offering Peppers a very fair deal even at the last minute. I am also exited for the season to start regardless of anything as always so it feels kind of the same to me. It will be refreshing to see some new panthers.

So far the excitement has been mostly finding out who else won't be on the team and what new hole has been created. Until we sign some free agents( if we sign some free agents) or the draft begins, we appear to be mostly out of the excitement part. It may have been a great day to be a Chicago Bear fan but not so much for a Panther fan. We have gotten worse at some positions and woefully thin at others. Until Hurney does something to fill in the missing blanks, it doesn't exactly resonate with positive feelings for the future. It will be the beginning of a new era. It remains to be seen whether it the start of something better or worse. We could be a contender or a team that tries to stay competitive while changing their philosophy from spending to going on the cheap like Tampa. I don't have any feel for how Morrison is playing it yet? Do you?

Though we marvel how quickly the ax fell on alot of these players, including Jake. I think we have been preparing to do this much longer than most might think.

Peppers - we drafted Brown who IMO has a better motor and will make us forget Peppers in a hurry. I love his upside and think he will flourish in Meeks defense.

Delhomme - Stole Moore from the Cowboys and got a couple of chances to see him in action. 6-2 is pretty damn good for being a back up. This over 3 season. Moore has matured and I think is ready to be #1. He sounds excited and ready to keep the Panthers in high gear as he did at the end of 09.

Kemo and Lewis - Brought in a butt load of DT that fit Meeks mold including Johnson from Indy. We knew we had more DT's than we can carry on our 53 man roster. Someone had to go. I believe we might bring in on more DT free agent.

Diggs and Johnson. How Diggs lasted this long with the Panthers amazed me. I though he was here to give some of the younger players a chance to get in the groove. They my have but never could beat him out. But Drafting Connor and Anderson will pay big dividends now. Anderson has the lead. We'll address a FA LB.

IMO we have as good if not better players ready to step in for these lost players. I would like to see more depth added but don't be surprised if your starting 22 are already on this roster.

Go Panthers

Potential means until they prove themselves they are an unknown quantity. We could have a potentially good team or we could fall on our faces. One concern I have is that we are not only getting younger but we are getting less experienced as well and will be relying on guys who are untested. Hopefully the remaining veterans and coaches can take these young guys and mold them into a cohesive unit that will be able to weather the storm which comes every year. The lack of a strong locker room veteran presence such as Moose brought when Smitty and Lucas got into it may come back to haunt us. Time will tell.

    • It's also worth noting that Cam himself said that he felt safer when running vs. sitting in the pocket because he could see the contact coming and prepare for it. A QB running the ball doesn't have to be a sledgehammer. He just has to be effective.
    • That Falcons game is about as good as it gets. Especially on the road. I know the Falcons defense was bad but he was cooking with Coker, an undrafted rookie get the bulk of the receptions. If your QB has 5 TDs and 0 turnovers he is playing like a top QB, yardage be damned. The big question for me is how consistently can be play the whole season?  I don’t expect a game like that every week, but I also don’t want to see any performances like the pre benching or that Cowboys game (which was bad post benching). Bryce’s best shot at being the guy is becoming a mini-Burrow who is about as consistent as you can get at the QB position.  The good news is this QB class should be a fun one. So hopefully Bryce becomes the guy, if not it’s a nice class to let DC pick his QB and they should come into a great situation with a good OL, RB, young talented WRs etc…
    • Bryce Young is far less risky with his body when he runs than Richardson and doesn’t take many unnecessary big hits. Was much more worried about injury when he had that abysmal OL his rookie season than I ever would be when he runs/scrambles. 500/10 seems like a fairly reasonable prediction considering he had 250/6 in 12 starts last season. Of course literally anybody CAN get hurt, it’s just that we were assured by many huddlers that it was a sure thing with Bryce Young that he wouldn’t make it to this point in his career without significant injuries.
