Statue For Jake Delhomme

First he didn't win a superbowl for us. That would have helped. His stats were not the best in the league for a long period of time. That would have helped He was nearly the worst QB in the league for a year. That didn't help.

Jake had some spectacular years but I think we will have better QBs in the future.

To play devils advocate did Sam Mills win us a SB? no

Was Sam Mills the best LB in the league? no (i was a lot younger than and didn't pay much attention to stats so correct me if i'm wrong)

I don't think the idea of getting a statue is all about the play on the field though some of it is, I think it's is more about the intangibles.

All that being said, I'm not sure I like the idea of any sports figure getting a statue.

I think a couple of former Panthers should already have statues. The rate we are going we will get a new statue every 15 years. Minter, Rucker and Moose should get one each and a few from the early part of the Panthers should get one.

Lmao! I was waiting to see if someone would be dumb enough to suggest this. Didn't take long did it? Its only fitting that it was katasss. Ha ha! Seriously what is this obsession everyone has with giving out statues?

GayManWasright -You miserable little fine young male,if you could understand what was written, you would see the post was a question,"Do you think the Panthers should erect a statue outside BOA Stadium of Jake Delhomme?" not a statement.

Not only are you a dumb azz but you seem to have a severe reading comprehensive problem.

While Jake was a great person with high character, he was only a slightly above average QB on his best days and below average on many others.

I could go along with the Panthers giving him a "Jake Delhomme Day",if he doesn't sign with another team but i don't feel he is worthy of a statue, something that should be reserved for great players.

This is my opinion but unlike you,i respect the opinions of those that disagree.

What should the rules be then for one? To me if a player spends most of his career here and stands out in both football and community, doesnt have to be a Probowler but needs to be a contributer to the team. BOA is a big place I want to see Statues wrapping around the stadium before I die. At the rate we going there will only be 8 in the next 40 year.

I would say Minter should get one, and then Kasay.

If Moose plays another two years with us, he could retire in the top 15 recievers of all time. That may deserve one

Hes a kicker. I mean for all hes done for us hes still just a kicker. And lets not forget the KO out of bounds that could have cost us the SB. I'm not downplaying all the Kicks in OT and late that got us there but that one will go down in Panthers history.

    • Here's the thing. You compared him to Jake. Jake was signed to the practice squad out of college. Bryce was the number 1 overall. Their expectations are wildly different and so are their contracts. You can talk all you want about what a player is and where they are now and all this other mumbo jumbo, but Jake never had a 5th year option and we weren't talking about the possibility of a top 5 QB contract extension at the end of his 3rd year. What he was expected to be matters because we invested heavily at a cost of future capital, including a 2nd round pick this year, for him to be that guy. The cost to add Bryce took value from the team. To be worth it, he has to add that value back.  Actually, I don't prefer yards, TDs, or only INTs. All those stats by themselves are misleading which is why I said you have to use a lot of different stats. ADOT - Average depth of target.  Completion %. Pretty obvious until you factor in ADOT. 0-5 has a lot higher C% than 10-15%. Hang time. If a pass is in the air for 4.6 seconds vs 3.1 on a 40 yards throw, that gives a DB a lot of time to correct. Is it a loft or is it a laser.  EPA - Expected points added. A way of measuring QB efficiency on every play.  CPOE - ranking pass completions based on several factors, not just the throw.  There's obviously more, but those are the more common.  Typical stats don't show everything. You need to look all over. Looking at a stat line is lazy. That's why I said, you need to analyze everything. Once you start looking at the numbers you start looking at the player. That's why you follow numbers. They lead you places. You look at what happening when the numbers show you patterns. That's where you start finding the problems that yards, TDs and Ints won't show you.
    • It's not relevant who wins or loses. It's about actually attempting to get better at the position.
    • Thank you. I don't understand how the Bryce stans don't see this. I've never seen a player get more hyped for doing so little. Honestly it's driving me a little insane.
