Nope, to sign a cheaper guy. I think Brayton's play here elevated his stock quite a bit, and depite his preference to re-sign, he knows his market value is probably at it's peak, so he wants to get as much as possible, which means looking at places other than Carolina.

the FO was discussing a contract with Brayton as late as last week. No news on what Brayton wanted (money or length of contract) or what the Panthers were willing to pay.

Brayton was solid, but we might be able to find a similar replacement under a 1 year contract.

They said he could be a DE in a 3-4. He is the kind of run stuffing DE that can slide inside on passing downs....much like Brayton did.

Everyone wants the big splash Free Agent signing. Fact it, we have sucked when we went that route in the past. We were more successful filling holes with moderately priced mid-tier FA's.
