Jake Signed with Cleveland

Well, I'm happy for Jake and I hope they bring a WR in there that he can throw too besides Cribbs on WR Screens. Holmgren basically said himself that Jake had a good chance to be the starter if he signed and that they were waiting to figure out what to do with Quinn based on Jake's decision.

So, I'm happy Jake will be getting to play.

What I'm not happy about is that we now have one guaranteed loss next year. Fox won't be able to attack Jake when we play the Browns.

I hope we open against Cleveland. Moore vs Jake(if starting). I think that would be sweet!

That might be bad for Moore's mojo/our team's mojo. I'd much rather face him later on, remember, he was well liked in the locker room.

However, if we go up against Chicago on opening day? We will have a lot of extra motivation for Mr. Millions who wants to play for a team with a "winning culture" and who has a rich football history etc etc

The Browns have always been number one in my heart but number thirty two in the program guide... Holmgren is suppose to be a QB guru but WTF. Strike one already for him....I mean seriously.

Jake must have really made an impression on Holmgren during the '05 NFC Championship game. :D

Browns pick up Delhomme for two years

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 13, 2010 6:00 PM ET

In the span of five days, Mike Holmgren has brought two quarterbacks to Cleveland to replace the guys that he inherited.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jake Delhomme has agreed to a two-year deal with the Browns. He won't make his visit to New Orleans.

Delhomme wanted a chance to start, and he'll have that in Cleveland. He and Seneca Wallace figure to compete to start. Based on Wallace's history with Holmgren and Delhomme's play last season, we'd bet on Wallace.

It's a motley quarterback group, and it's fair for Browns fans to wonder how much the team is really upgrading. Holmgren and Eric Mangini clearly have no use for Brady Quinn, who looks as good as gone.

The Delhomme move is especially questionable because it reduces the team's flexibility. Forget trading for one of the Eagles quarterbacks now. The Browns still need to find a young quarterback to develop.

The one thing saving this signing is Holmgren's track record with quarterbacks. That helps him get the benefit of the doubt for now.

But that only lasts until Delhomme's first three interception game

So, Delhomme makes 12 million from us and then more from Cleveland? Really? Signing with someone else does not mean that that team needs to take on that salary? Really? I guess I am naive, but it seems that the Panthers did Delhomme a HUGE favor by cutting him.

LOL

Nothing against Jake, but, 12 million from the Panthers + 12 million from the Browns for a QB with a bad arm and a shot ego.

All I can say is the league is really hard up for QBs.

I believe this gets the Panthers off the hook for Jake's salary. Read somewhere there is a clause in the contract that voids it if he gets picked up by another team. That's probably why it was exactly the same amount. We would never be so lucky in a capped year.

I think Jake gets his money no matter what.

    • Wow that’s actually really cool chatgpt can do that Although, as we know Arizona sat in soft zone the entire second half. So there was a lot of dinking and dunking, but that’s the right thing to do in that situation.  Week 1 pass chart doesn’t look bad. He pushes the ball downfield more than several other quarterbacks I’ve watched. For some reason the huddle thinks other quarterbacks are constantly throwing 60 yard bombs. That is absolutely not the case. Some quarterbacks aren’t taking any deep shots at all.
    • We keep referring to it as Over drafting him like he was really a first round draft pick. We traded up at the end of the first to get him in a deal with Buffalo so that we could grab him and get an extra year on his contract if needed. At the time that sounded like "If he really soars, we can get that fifth year extension automatically". It really probably meant, "We might need five years to really get him up to starting WR speed."  He was basically a second rounder with a potentially meaningless pick as well to pay for those rights. Still, I think that with him we are on the Kelvin Benjamin bubble right now... will he ever be more than just an athlete? Can he really learn to fight and compete for that ball? Can he learn professional routes? Can he handle the fame and more money than he's ever seen in his life? Can he handle all of the pressure a fanbase puts on him? Tough shoes to fill. Not sure I'd want to be in them. I hope he gets it all together soon. A lot, most draftees, can't. Good luck and God bless to the young man. He's got a lot of work to do in a very unforgiving workplace.
    • This is the #1 reason I defend Bryce. Everyone around him is learning on the job, including him. But hey in 3 years we could have a talented offense that grew up together.
