Too Much Love For Jake

Alright fellas, I don't like what I'm seeing here. It's no secrete how much Jake means and meant to the FO but the logic of this is unreasonable. He blows the playoff game against the Cards and the FO reward him with a huge underserved contract. I kinda understood the contract to the tune of helping out the salary cap b/c of Franchising Pep that season, so that gave us a little room in which we needed b/c of the unforseen DT situation. But to top that off, Jake comes back with a terrible 18 Int through 11 games w/o ever being pulled. The FO was willing to throw the season away standing behind Jake. Was the injury real or not, I don't know, but Moore showed the world, more importantly, the fans that he can ball. Now we're on the hook to Jake for 12.7 mil. If i gotta pay him anyway, why cut him, this is a business! The FO loves Jake so much, they cut him so he would be free to sign wth a team of his choice knowing he already has 12.7 mil in his pocket. They've hurt the team to love Jake. There is something seriously wrong with that. Jake is/was a good QB, eventhough Smitty has made him look great at times, he's never been great. The business thing to do, would've been to keep him as a backup or trade him. That way you continue to bring value to your team though your contract mistakes. But they decided to hurt the team and show Jake their love. This ain't normal, this is Too Much Love For Jake! Whats going on that we don't know?

Nobody would have traded for him. Keeping him would have created an akward situation due to Jake's presence as a leader on team. They cut him because he stinks. They didn't do it to give him money. That's a big stretch of the imagination.

Like you said, it's a business. If you think the Panthers cut Jake just so he could sign with another team, I think you might be the one not thinking logically.

The Panthers have been unquestionably loyal to Jake, and that's exactly why they cut him -- to show Moore that he is their No. 1 guy, and to take away any temptation of starting Jake.

They did not sign to that contract as a reward. It was a necessary evil in order to get Julius' franchise tag worked in under the cap.

    • Roger all that. Do you think BY avoided any sacks last game? This oline is not what you're touting them to be. They are much better then 2023! Much much much better than 2023. But come on now, you'd expect this expensive oline (most are run blocking specialist) to at least dominate in the run game every game.  And... I keep telling you our WRs and TEs are not that good yet. I mean last Sunday was a prime example. Our receiving targets never make plays like those. Never. And this is from one of the worst teams in the league. Shough could have easily had 3 INTs if not for his receivers making plays on the ball. Our guys just don't do that. XL almost allowed an INT backing up out of bounds instead of coming to the ball. And everyone would have blamed that on BY. That's why he doesn't throw to that dude. I can't recall a game except maybe the second Falcons game - maybe, where I thought our receivers could possibly be better than the other team's. I think TMac and Coker have a lot of potential. But they're aren't consistent. But they're young and WILL improve. I'm confident of that.  I don't agree that BY was drafted to only stand in the pocket. He has always been best off schedule - for better or worse.
    • Do you think you will get a direct answer?  Icky giving up 5 pressures (playing hurt in his defense) by himself and Bryce only getting sacked once tells you he played well in the pocket.  He extended plays and converted some tough downs.
    • I've been very apprehensive about potentially firing yet another head coach. But Canales needs to focus on being a head coach first and foremost and begin handing off some responsibilities like playcalling duties and begin overseeing the entire team or we need to assess all possible ideal HC candidates in the offseason.
