University of Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike has conducted three private workouts, according to a source close to the program.

Pike has worked out for the following NFL teams so far, the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots.

The 6-foot-6, 223-pounder has been projected anywhere from the second round to the fourth round.

Pike ranked 12th in the nation lat season with a 149.8 quarterback rating, including 10 consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes.

Could be worse. (Tim)

That dude is pretty f**king big for a QB.

More:

"Carolina presents another good opportunity for Pike but one he might not be ready for. Jake Delhomme is gone, and the assumed starter going into camp is Matt Moore, who has seen action in sixteen games over two seasons. He had a strong half season in 2009 after replacing Delhomme but could be dethroned by the likes of Pike. If Pike wants a team to start for as a rookie, the Panthers present the best shot out of the teams he has worked out for. And if not that, he only has Josh McCown and Hunter Cantwell to battle for the backup spot."

I agree with his point.

so that teams think we are drafting a QB in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rounds... duh... What the f**k are we going to do with a developmental QB this year or next? Moreso, what the f**k is John Fox going to do with a developmental QB when he has to win now? We will not see a QB in the 2nd, or 3rd rounds, and the 4th round would be pointless to get a QB unless someone like Pike actually does fall that far.

Here is how our draft will proceed:

Second round: Trade up if good talent at either DE, DT, or Wide Reciever is available/ If we keep our current pick we will take the best talent available out of those three positions

Third Round: Take one other of the two we just skipped out on

Fourth: Look for a good qb that has fallen if not take best talent available at almost any position- includes linebacker and corner back- also about this time we are looking for a return man

sixth and seventh rounds- best talent available

The Panthers like to have a game-plan going in, but as we have seen before they like to build their whole team through the draft and that means sacrificing picks on talent for positions that aren't necessarily needed

He's basically Chad Pennington/Kyle Orton right now. Accurate as hell, but is the definition of 'noodle arm'.

I don't know that we'll use our later round picks for him. We have our starter, and Pike isn't going to provide an immediate impact so it's just a waste of a pick when Fox is in a win or get fired season. I'd much rather use our later round picks to try and get a kicker such as Tiffin(who is projected to be a 5th/6th rounder) to develop this year to replace Kasay.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
