Where would the Panthers be if they sat Bryce Young last season?

What do you think really happens here?  Do you think that Seattle loss with half a secondary is a realistic game for Dalton to consistently have?  Do you expect 40 year old Dalton to throw it 60 times and rack up 361 yards while constantly getting hit to work against other teams?  If we played him all year do you think he would rack up 6,137 yards 34 TDs and 0 INTs on over a thousand attempts?  That games wasn't a great game.  We were trailing all game and he threw it against a terrible secondary 60 times averaging 6.6 yards an attempt.  He had one "deep" pass to Chark (wide ass open) for 27 yards who ran another 20 for a TD.  That's not happening against other teams.  I would be surprised if Dalton made it two more games taking those kinds of hits and probably losing both of those games.  Our OL sucked, Our coaches sucked, and our weapons sucked.

Remember Rhule beat Andy Dalton and his Saints offense (which has a better OL and better weapons) just the prior year.  Yeah Matt Rhule...  Darnold put up 43 yards and 2 INTs and Dalton STILL couldn't beat him.  That's embarrassing.

Your obsession with seattle game is weird, when i have referenced other games. To completely ignore the specific circumstances of that game is just silly. A game with a record number of false starts which played a huge impact on the game because of the crowd noise so according to you that would have been the case in every other game that year right? Secondly, stop saying Dalton is 40 yrs old. The guy is 36, he isnt a fossil yet and clearly showed that...this is the ridiculous overexaggerating that always gets thrown into discussions to make people seem like they are saying something smart.

Its also funny the narrative on theilen up until that game was that he was a fossil, washed up, couldnt play anymore and then be busts out 145 yards on 10 catches with Dalton. I dont care the team played, for someone his age thats good production he was catching heat along with everybody else.

you are referencing imaginary games that doesn't exist.   Why not talk about the last NFL start Dalton played prior to Seattle....or the last 3 prior to the Seattle games.   Recent real football by Dalton.

He was worse than Bryce Young's average in a couple of those.

Im going off Daltons overall time in the league and experience....and that is good enough to win you a couple games.

I know Dalton is good enough not to rank 34 out of 32 QBs last year. What about you??

Oh, well I'm not.  Red Rifle Cincy Dalton isn't the dude playing football today.

What ranking metric is that based on?

Everything i have seen is overall metrics....not specific. Some have bryce lower than that, some do blame the staff and coaches who give Feedback but that is opinionated.

My obsession with the only game he played in last year in reference to his current play is weird?  I just gave you his last game as a Saint the year prior.  He lost to Dalton's 43 yards and 2 picks.  Couldn't put up more than 10 points on Matt Rhule's Panthers.  36 is old for a QB.  Drew Brees and Tom Brady are not the norm.  Dalton isn't the QB he once was and the QB he once was is nothing more than a average to below average starter.

Lol you are all over the place.  So are you referencing the Seattle game in relation to AT?  The game you claimed I was obsessed with in a weird way?  Yeah he feasted on an injured secondary that couldn't cover Chark either.  AT isn't the WR he once was.  He is a slower slot at his age and was force fed the ball in our system.  Look at our moves this offseason.  Trade for DJ, draft a WR in round 1, we knew WR was one of our biggest weaknesses and are trying to upgrade it.

Will the obsession over Andy Dalton throwing for 6ypc on 60 attempts while getting hit 15 times in a loss never end? Blows my mind people think that was good or sustainable.

What Dalton was really all about is the deep routes weren’t being called or run with Bryce Young lol ‘under’ center.  All of a sudden we had them again.

Why do you Young faithful think that was, exactly? Or what the point to take away was? We drafted a QB and sold 2 farms to do it and the coach really is on the hot seat because he wants to bench him. Why would he possibly have wanted to bench him? Well maybe Dalton showed us that (?!).

Maybe try and be realistic.

His 2 completions for over 20 yards?  One for 25 and one for 27 still average 6.6 YPA.  I'm not sure there were as many deep routes as people are remembering or if he even had time to throw them...

Again you can not be impressed with Young AND not be impressed with Dalton.  It's quite logical really...

There were deep routes called. There had been I think, two called in one game one in the other. Don’t hold me to those numbers but... It was a thing. Especially after preseason. I’ll let someone else give their perspective.

So what is more important? what he did on the Saints the year before last or how he compares to a ROOKIE who clearly had problems adjusting to the LEAGUE last year on another team and it effecting win/losses? smh And you say im all over the place.

Also, i clearly gave explanations for how the seattle game played out. Its rare a qb has to throw the ball 63 times so to think it would have been a theme for the season is ludicrous... the even bigger point is that its not necessarily his fault if he has to do it in the first place like he was calling the plays but for some strange reason you continue to hold that against Dalton as if its all on him and not the guys around him racking up penalties. If he is old terrible as you say it shouldnt matter how bad the defense was he played, he shouldnt have been able to throw for over 300 yds on them with no turnovers. But this is the narratives people pushed all season, why didnt bryce turn around and destroy and even worse defense against a winless vikings the next week? Do i need to layout how dumb this logic is even more?

give me Leggette and what Canales did in Tampa….and I think PJ Walker could win more than 2 games as our starting QB this year.

Given that, Bryce got to win about 6 or I’m beyond done

    • And I have been a big XL guy/fan.  He know doubt was drafted because he fits a role that is in all the Os Canales has been around.  my concern is Bryce, and it’s probably not a talent issue on this aspect.  Just a QB DNA thing.  I really think Canales and XL pair best with a gunslinger/risk taker.   You want to limit gunslinger with the run but then need the QB to go downfield aggressively.   Bryce needs to simply play and be more aggressive downfield.   Which is easier said than done if not wired that way
    • Agreed. People who say this are of the same ilk as "WE GOTTA GET RID OF RICHARDSON SO WE CAN GET THE NFL SHIELD OFF THE FIELD." How is that working out now?  Rod can stay as long as he likes and keeps fielding one of the best teams in the NHL. He does need someone on the staff that understands goalies. That has always been a weakness for him.
    • Do I want Bryce Young to be a good QB? Yes, the Panthers homer in me is rooting for him to turn it around against all odds and prove all the haters wrong.  Do I think Bryce Young will be a good QB? No. And the odds are he won’t be. I didn’t think he’d translate to the NFL from the moment I watched him against the Texas defense in 2022, a game Alabama only won because Quinn Ewers got knocked out of the game. When he faced pressure he looked like sh*t and that’s the exact same QB we saw in the NFL. He’s too short to step up in the pocket so you have to design a gimmick offense to allow him to improvise plays. He didn’t scream “first overall pick” to me at least.  Meanwhile CJ Stroud played out of his mind in the biggest game of his life against the best defense in college football and the Panthers said nah we’re going to draft the 5’9 guy who couldn’t carve up an average Texas defense.
