I will only say that Lewis was MIA a lot so what was the big progress they were going to make? They simply didn’t have the starting OL together until the damned opener. Not happy about at all but what can you do?

Because 1 of them isn't available the other 4 can't work together? Nah. It wasn't just the OL though - not playing the starters at all appeared to be a mistake from the start and yesterday's performance sure supports that opinion.

Doesn't matter at this point though. The bar has been set and we'll see if Canales can get the trendline pointing up from here.

I guess my point is, preseason wasn't going to do it to the degree it needs doing. Whether or not they got their time in preseason, it was going to extend into the season and for much of it.

I guess I am falling behind, because the truisms that were held by about everyone don't seem to be holding. Such as, it takes time to judge young WRs, OLs need reps as a unit for continuity, two examples.

I am not sure how much was lost, but if you will accept that I accept we lost something... just less than what you think... we can move on.

All fair, and to use your foundation my point is/was that the staff being amenable to losing any progress at all in this manner given the circumstances is unfortunate.

    • RBs are easy to find. Not the least bit worried. I like this King kid tho. His throwing motion is weird to me but he's an athlete. Hope he gets lots of run in the preseason and we're not watching THE will grier mopping up.
    • I love the linemen. Intrigued by the idea of Brazzell but a little skeptical  No opinion of the others
    • I'll say the same thing this year that I said last year, wins and losses aren't important. The only important thing is coming to a decision on Bryce one way or the other.  If he looks amazing but we find ways to lose, who cares we lost, we have our QB of the future.  If he looks terrible but we find ways to win, who cares that we won, we have to replace him. And that's not me saying I don't want to see us win next year, just saying that wins/losses are secondary and far less important this season than coming to a 100% conclusion on what Bryce is for us. Having said that, the only way I'll be okay with giving him an extension instead of replacing him is if he is a borderline MVP candidate and at minimum, an unquestioned Top 10 QB in the league next year. Even just a season of slight improvement won't be enough for me, that's still not good enough to warrant a big extension, he has the team around him, he needs to show why he was the #1 overall pick, if not, good bye.
