first of all, i never said anything about church before he mentioned church. i just said religion in general. second of all, poor moral character does typically translate to poor play on the field because they're distracted.

i do think the only perfect people are some in religious tradition, and that's where role models should come from. if you want to get sarcastic with me for my belief, that's fine i guess.

Ray Lewis has been an all pro player many times and is a murderer. So much for that theory.

While I don't want this to end up being a tinderbox issue, keep in mind that most of the wars in history were over religious differences and that most of the terrorists in the world are very religious people. Religion has caused as many problems as it has solved. Not exactly role models.

I seem to remember OJ Simpson benig a pretty decent player in his day as well. ;)

for all you know i could be buddhist.

I didn't think there was such a thing as Buddhist pastors.

I'll bow out of this as well. We've had enough debates over religion as of late.

i said i was going to drop it, but you people are acting ridiculous. i never said i had a pastor beaux berry. that guy who was asking about matt moore said he had a pastor. to the other dude who felt the urge to degrade religion, i never said the role models should come from the people who use religion in a horrible way. i said it should come from the moral religious figures who the religions are based on. there are some you know. people who always did great things and who never hurt anyone, and taught their followers to do so as well. people should strive to be as perfect as possible, so their role models should naturally come from those who were perfect.

As far as I know, Fox has never said anything negative about Moore's personality or work ethic, so I don't know where that notion came from in the first place. In fact, he pretty much gave Matt Moore his full endorsement as the Panthers starting QB during that fair well to Jake Delhomme PC. Actions speak louder than words though, and the actions by the Panthers FO should tell you that they are very confident in Moore's ability to lead this team. If they weren't confident in Moore, they would be scrambling to find a veteran as insurance, but that's obviously not happening.

Fox has commented to many folks inside the organization and it has been reported by those folks to others. Other times reporters have interviewed Moore like last year about off season workouts asking him about how they were going. He reported said they were going great. He could work out for a little while and then had all day off to do whatever he wanted. That was interpreted as being pretty slack. But, no, Fox would never throw a player under the bus. He is a players' coach and that means he praises in public and critcizes in private.

Fox's endorsement came at the end of 2009 after his record on the field not before. And I am sure that they have had several talks this offseason about what they expect from him and are satisfied that he is committed to practice and gamefilm as well as Sunday games.

i was listening to a sports radio show just the other day, and the hosts were saying how dumb it was for a father to be upset that tiger woods had not lived up to expectations, and how much tiger woods had let that father's son down. they said the same thing about sports and religion that i did. sports figures do not exist to be role models. they exist to play sports and be a source of entertainment.

No one is or was perfect. My point is to get off the religious kick and using it as a role model discussion. Religion is full of reformed criminals and murderers. Look at Moses for example. I guess it only counts if it is the right religion or they do it in the right way according to your views. There are also a bunch of very good folks who do great things who aren't religious at all.

Why not let it go. You are treading in deep water and going under from what I can see.

yes, it only counts if it is done in the right way according to my views. i don't consider a sports player who hoards millions of dollars while people are probably starving to death in his own county (not to mention the rest of the world) a role model. he's a sports player who i watch for entertainment, and nothing more. i'm willing to agree to disagree since my own personal view of what is moral and what is not can't necessarily reflect what is indeed moral or not. since i believe myself to be imperfect, i can't philosophically say with 100% certainty i know what is right and wrong. nevertheless, i believe what i believe, so let's just agree to disagree.

How did questions about Matt Moore's character turn into all this? I just wanted to know if he is a good guy or not. I live in Richmond, and there is not a lot of Panther coverage here, and you all know there is no Panther coverage on the national level.

As far as my son, his role model is his dad. No, I'm not perfect, but I try to live my life right and instill descent morals and values in both my children. I do not expect him to idolize an athlete, me, or anyone else for that matter. My son at six years old loves the Panthers because his daddy loves the Panthers. He picked a #17 jersey because I had one. I will gladly buy him a #3 jersey if I don't have to worry about explaining to my son why Moore was accused of or arrested for something or acts like a jerk to his fans. I know there is no way of knowing what the future holds, but I just wanted some honest opinions of what the people in the community thought of Moore. He's not coming to Richmond to sign autographs, or help open a new store etc.. We don't see him around town, or see him at our local stadium. I hope Moore turns out to be the answer to the Panthers QB problem. I wish him all the luck and success in the world. And I hope I can get my little guy a #3 jersey and watch him wear it with pride into the first grade.

Rayzor, thanks for answering my original questions. To those of you questioning how I raise my child, worry about your own children, mine are doing just fine.

It's been my experience that information passed that way usually gets distorted by the opinions and interpretations of "those folks" and "others" by the time it gets to "us", so I just pay attention to what I hear from Fox himself.
