Who's the bust?

Every year someone takes one. Who do you think it's going to be? And don't throw out a second or third round projection, I want to know which guy who's going in the first half of the first round is going to sorely disappoint, and why do you think so?

To be honest I don't have a pipe lock bust for the first round this year like most. Speaks to the talent in this draft. I think there will probably be more guys drafted too early rather than out and out busts.

That doesn't mean there won't be (a) bust(s), mind you. There are a lot of guys with injury concerns and surely one of them will fall prey to the injury bug. Bradford is the most obvious culprit, but TE's like Gresham and especially Gronkowski present significant risk.

D-Line is usually fertile land for busts, and guys like Derek Harvey and Gholston were fairly easy to spot. Still they can always surprise. I was pretty sure Orakpo was going the way of most UT grads, but he had a very promising rookie campaign. I'd say Jason Pierre-Paul has a pretty good shot at being a bust and a very good chance at being way overdrafted. Still I can see him breaking out in 2-3 years to be a QB's worst nightmare.

There are three guys at OT that I can pretty much guarantee will produce one giant bust among them: Anthony Davis, Trent Williams and Bruce Campbell. I think Bulaga if picked in the top 10 he will be at the very least overdrafted. If Vladamir Ducasse goes in the first round as a tackle he will probably flop his way into being a decent to good Guard a la Leonard Davis.

He's big and Physical but he lack's 3 thing to be effective in NFL

-Speed

-Quickness

-Intelligence

those 3 are a must to be an elite WR.

Dez is plenty fast and quick enough but....

Guys like Andre Johnson and Brandon Marshall aren't the brightest in the world and Percy Harvin is widely regarded as being a bag of hammers.

Jerry Rice's lack of great foot speed is well documented.

True. But AJ and BM are freaks. They huge yet very athletic and super fast and quick.

I can see Dez Bryant being a bust due to lack of effort, but he is just as fast if not faster than Brandon Marshall and Larry Fitzgerald, who are regarded as two of the top five receivers in the league. I do agree though he isn't on par with Andre Johnson and probably Calvin Johnson who are just insane athletically.

      I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.

      At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.

      Bingo. The dude is a baller no doubt and I'd love to have him in a vacuum but like you said he's gonna fetch a haul so the only teams it really makes sense for are teams with an overall good roster who they feel an edge rusher like Crosby would out them over the top in terms of competing for SBs. I'd be looking st teams like the Pats, Bucs, Ravens, Seahawks, etc. It wouldn't be shocking to see him moved. He may be more valuable to a rebuilding team in the form of the draft assets he'd fetch than he is on the field. He should still have several more good years in the tank at 28 but by the time the Raiders can reasonably expect to rebuild he's gonna be on the decline.
