Andy Dalton is a top 5 QB so far

In fairness, he has done this with veteran QB's who needed some tweaking. Also with talented guys.

We haven't seen him have success with a rookie before.

We really haven't seen him with a young QB besides Bryce, especially one he's drafted. Lock never saw the field in 22, Trask never saw the field in 23. I'm still scratching my head over the afterthought udfa pickup of Plummer, not sure if that was a Canales/Morgan collaboration or if Morgan just got whatever rookie bum they could sign after the draft.

That is a question mark thing. It went along with the everything for Bryce philosophy that seemed to be guiding things. This is a no threat to him acquisition.
It’s damning as far as ownership but I hope the bridge has been crossed. Time to burn it.

I also DGAF about a rookie QB if you can find a guy like Smith or Mayfield.

Same here. If you've got a coach like Canales, just go with former first round QBs with some wisdom earned over the years and switch them out every 3-5 years as/if needed.

No need taking a gamble on a rookie and waiting/hoping he becomes a franchise QB.

I know Tepper (and many in here) want that long term franchise guy who will be the face of the franchise, but we got the same distance using a 30something year old cast off as we did with a generational talent drafted first overall.

Is it really necessary to go the route of drafting your franchise QB?

I understand where ya'll are coming from and tend to agree with you in general but we absolutely should still draft a QB. Let that guy come in and learn under the current veteran starter until the time comes to make a change. All of that should be up to Canales.

We should proceed forward with newfound clarity after the Bryce Young fiasco and yes that means a top to bottom reevaluation of our approach to the position. But we should also be mindful that this whole thing came about because we stubbornly ignored virtually all previous common sense norms for QB evaluation and selected an outlier among outliers after trading a fortune because we got caught up in media created smoke and mirrors mainly due to the college said QB played for.

Tune out unnecessary noise tone down the analytics and just draft good football players. Regardless of position. And we'll be fine.

Almost exactly the same mistake as the Rhule coaching hire. Go figure

Oh I am not saying we shouldn't stop attempting but we should absolutely stop the utter nonsense that led us to getting Bryce Young. There is no reason to trade up like that to get any QB. IDGAF who it is.

Play the board. Be smart. Don't reach for a QB out of desperation

The big problem is you never trade to pick 1 to draft 185 pounds and 5'8". I dont care what position they play.

I mean we did find the guys who are currently leading the pack for MVP...

And TD passes.

Ooof.

We will see Bakers already done quite well last season, BOTH of them are infinitely better than young.

Baker will have a good year, I agree. Not MVP caliber, IMO. Darnold, well that other shoe is going to drop and a lot of people are gonna get real quiet, IMO.

Young isn't relevant. This was a discussion of NFL QB's.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
