In spirit of this week: what is your favorite Panthers/Falcons memory?

Recommended Posts

Like many of you I have followed the Panthers for a long time. I was a PSL owner for nearly a decade and can count on one hand how many Panthers games I have missed watching. When you follow a team this closely, they become tethered in your lives and your worst/best memories.

What are some of your most memorable Panthers/Falcons moments? I will share some of mine.

2003- Carolina @ Atlanta

I was in high school. Michael Vick was coming back from injury and it was Sunday night football in Atlanta. My grandfather had been very ill and was confined to his bed at this point. He had never been a Panthers fan or football fan in general. I spent Sunday/Sunday nights with him while he was sick to give my other family members a break from his caretaking. That season, he had went from not caring what was on TV to hooping and hollering about the Panthers. That night though sticks out to me. I had actually fallen asleep before him, and he woke me up to tell me it was going into OT. I still remember the oxygen mask around his face as he stared directly at the TV. The Panthers lost the game, but I felt like he and I had actually bonded around something. He died the night after we beat the Rams in the Playoffs that season and he never got to see them in the SuperBowl, but that season will always be special to me beyond the fact that we made it to the Super Bowl that year.

2014- Carolina @ Atlanta

The other was the 2014 season in Atlanta. We won the game to go to the post season that year. That night was one of the worst of my life. I sat in the ER after my father had a heart attack. I remember just seeing it up on the screen in the corner of the room and while I sat with Dad in silence, I watched the game to keep my mind busy. My Dad passed about 3am but that game sticks out in my mind as one that was special for more than one reason. I felt like my Dad and I shared that game in that small hospital room.

2004 Panthers @ Falcons

We were fighting for our playoffs lives. If we lost we were eliminated from the playoffs.
It was a great game even though we lost in overtime.
Team did everything they could to win but Vick did Vick things and the rest was history.

My family had Christmas Dinner this night because some of them were in town. I can remember watching the first half from sitting in the dining room staring into the den. Only older Panthers fans remember the tension from this game. I remember feeling like the game lasted 6 hours.

Beating them with Deangelo Williams and Deshaun Foster running the wildcat for most of the game. Team had 52 carries for 183 yards that game.

I think I remember this. Was a weird game in general.

I also remember when Weinke came in one year. He threw the ball like 15 times or something and we won. I had a $500 bet that the Panthers would win that game before I realized who was starting. Never have I ever been glued to a TV like that.

It is probably the same game. Weinke was the starter due to a Jake injury. I am sure if the box score was checked, he might have thrown it 10 times. It was an embarrassing beatdown. Run after run after run.

I was at the 1st real game at BofA and it was against the falCONS....  Their fans were absolute trash that day and have remained that way....

What fans? Front-running team, with front-running, bandwagon-hopping fair weather fans. Everyone thinks ATL is short for Atlanta. No, it is short for All Time Losers, and they are required to have it on their poo uniforms.

How about 7 pass attempts? Our OC went wildcat in this game but was more infamous for doing it with the Dolphins in 2008.

Best memory is the December 2024 game against the Falcons to decide the NFC South. Specifically, at the end of the third quarter when Matt Ryan threw his second pick six of the game. That was satisfying enough but the cherry on top was afterwards with Rivera giving a thumbs up to the camera going into the commercial break with that beautiful Happy Holidays score on the screen.

And now you know the context behind the gif!

Weinke was 4/7 for 32 yards and a TD. That is some efficient qb play.

Vick, to contrast, was busy thinking about killing dogs and put up 9/20 for 109 yards and 2 interceptions.

    • I like Jaycee a lot and appreciate his leadership but to say he's above Ramsey right now is based on hopium let's be realistic. He's got a great deal to prove this season. I’m hoping to see that he firmly establishes himself amongst his peers.
    • It’s amazing how simple it is. When you are winning 2-7 games for 7 straight years, you’d think people would understand that just drafting some starters isn’t poo unless they are above average NFL starters. Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase started their rookie years like Legette did so we got an elite WR in the 2024 draft. Luke was a rookie starter just like Wallace. Damn we basically got a Kuechly and Jefferson last year. Bravo Dan Morgan!!!
    • I didn’t even say they would be starters. I don’t think Legette will be and Coker was not drafted. Coker chose to sign with us because our WR room gave him a chance to start even though we drafted a guy in the 1st. That should tell you something when Coker chose to come to Carolina even after we took Legette. We drafted and signed guys to potentially replace Sanders, who isn’t a starter yet over Tremble) and Wallace. Go look at our other drafts since Rhule. We had tons of rookie contribution from all of our recent classes. Why, because our overall talent sucked and we needed bodies. Go look at PFR. Here’s some of our players who “started” for a year: TMJ, Mingo, BC, Ian Thomas, Jermaine Carter, Dennis Daley, YGM and Roy. That’s what Legette and Wallace are right now although unless TMac bombs, Legette has kind of already lost his spot. We’ve had shitty drafts since 2018 and every single one has contributed at least two guys who’ve started so 2024 is tied for last right now and we just had a draft where we took 3 more players who play the same position as 3 of our top 4 picks in 2024 but somehow I’m saying that the 2024 draft class is good? Nope, the 2024 draft class was bad and our team is still in the low enough talent quadrant that lots of rookie contribute in our holes until we replace them. Been the same story since 2018 and accelerated as the old solid vets retired/move on.
