To put Jarrett in perspective

Chimera

Recommended Posts

Dwayne Jarret was drafted right after Minnesota drafted Sidney Rice.

He was drafted 5 spots ahead of the Giants' Steve Smith.

2009 stats:

Rice 83 receptions, 1312 yards, 8 TDs

Smith 107 receptions, 1220 yards, 7 TDs

Jarrett 17 receptions, 196 yards, 1 TD

I hope everything was Jake's fault. He was drafted in pretty good company.

It's interesting to point out that all of this production came from the saints game, a game where the Saints rested their starters and had nothing to play for. All other games where the starters played he didn't produce at all. The tampa bay game of 07 didn't have the starters playing but he still didn't produce.

we're 13-17 when he plays, 1-2 when he starts.

San Diego 08, Arizona regular season (08 & 09) and the last saints game 09 are the only games where he has gotten over 20 yards and we have won. Any other game when he's produced we've been beaten by a healthy margin.

Yeah because Jake Delhome is the only bad QB in the league. Poor, poor Jarrett.

Mohamed Massaquoi overcame Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn. The had the worst combined passer rating in the entire league(worse than Delhome's) and he was on the 8th best rushing offense in the leauge.

Brandon Pettigrew was better with Matthew Stafford, Dante Culpepper, and Drew Stanton at QB who combined for the 2nd worse QB rating in the league(worse than Delhome's). And he's a tight end.

Sammie Stroughter was better with Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson, and Bryon Leftwich at QB. They were 3rd worse in the leauge by passer rating(.4 better than Delhome).

Louis Murphy was better with Jarmacus Russell, Bruce Gradkowski, and Charlie Frye all throwing to him. They combined for 4th worse in the league.

Bradon Gibson was better with Marc Buldger, Kyle Boller, and Keith Null throwing to him. They combined for 6th worse in the leauge.

None of these guys have the luxury of a QB coming in to play for 5 games with a QB rating of nearly 100. They are all far worse than we are. The Browns and Raiders threw for even less yards than we did.

They beat him while playing with poo. Jarrett had gold at QB for 5 games but that's right he could barely beat out UDFA's for the opportunity to even get on the field.

Basically what X and Swordcat is the reason this is not a very good way to put Jarrett in "perspective". Smith became a go-to guy in the Giants offense. And he has Eli Manning ( he is pretty good) Sidney received the trust of Favre. This is not the first time Bret has helped young WR's break out. Fact is Jarrett was not and will not be the primary target and Smith had a rough year with Jake at the helm. This year will be a world of difference.

Jarrett has talent and is dirt cheap. We all know he has outstanding hands and jumping ability, and he is a very underrated blocker. He showed wk17 that he deserved a starting chance so give him one. Who care what he has done up till now. Its put up or shut up for him.

I still think we should go into the draft with the mindset that we don't have Jarrett but he still deserves a chance.

It was only last season that Jake was completely terrible. What is Jarrett's excuse for the prior years?

It's not just him getting ignored on the field. He couldn't even show enough to get ON the field usually. He couldn't beat out K. Moore for snaps.

The one game in three years he's shown anything was against backups in a game that didn't matter and all the Saints cared about was not getting injured.

Love the optimism about him, but I don't really think he's shown anything to deserve it yet. Would love to be wrong.

It's not entirely Jakes fault, but Jarrett isn't off the hook. However, if he had a great QB throwing to him (perhaps Moore will be that QB) he might do well (at least decent).

I think most people are expecting him to do better, but not necessarily break out and be a top WR.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
    • Bryce’s deep passes are intermediate passes for other strong armed QBs. I will say that Bryce’s accuracy on his deep passes have improved. Before they would just sail out of bounds. Now the WR actually has a fighting chance on the ball.
