Prediction: Jimmy Clawesome starts week 1

Moore Starts, JC Is 2nd string, Pike is 3rd, Cantwell is Practice Squad, end of story.

What he said. Only way Clausen sees any action in his first year is if Panthers start losing. They will stick with Moore as long as we are winning. If they start losing, here comes Clausen.

The difference between the Clausen situation and most blue chip potential franchise QB's is the fact we got him mid second round. When you take someone top five picks and pay them $50 million, you tend to start them sooner rather than later. Mid 2nd rounders don't get anywhere close to that so you can sit them a let them learn.

Even if he is ready to play, I really don't see any upside to starting him if Moore is playing well. Rookies will be rookies and make mistakes.

Matt has earned the starting job. It is his job to lose. Period. This thread goes along with all the other ignorant, thoughtless statements made with nothing to support it. Seriously, we have some of the worse football people throwing their two little pennies around.

Moore plays through Pre-Season, and hopefully does well. Carolina then begins shopping him around before the start of the regular season, and may even land him a spot somewhere that needs a quarterback of the future, such as Minnesota or Jacksonville.

Jimmy Clausen picks up the reins as the number 1, Cantwell the number 2 but only because he knows the system and is in a place to run it while Pike learns the ropes in the background.

Clausen starts Week 1, and is eased into the game. 12 passing attempts the first week, then it progresses until he finally has control of the flow of the game, a la Ben Roethlisberger.

yeah, b/c NFL teams think going into a season w/o a single QB that has played a single down is a good thing. lol, that would never happen.

Just wanted to get that out there. His work in preseason will earn him the job. A lot of people are taking the politically correct approach and just handing Moore the job before we've even been to training camp or played a single preseason game. The organization's approach at this point is to not undercut Moore right off the bat but mark my words... their opinions will change once we've seen JC in preseason taking the majority of the meaningful snaps as the #2 QB.

I have no doubt he'll earn the starting job by week 1.

okay dude you just got on this forum when we drafted jimmy clawesome and all your post have been about how jimmy is going to be the poo, well we here are panther fans not jimmy clawesome fans and Matt is obviously going to be the starter. You must have forgotten all of last season. Matt had a 98.5 QB rating last year and looked just as good as Peyton Manning in most of those games plus he knows our team better then any other QB on our roster hes been here what 3 years? Matt wins games in the NFL and has already proven us that... i think someone needs to go watch a replay of last years game's against the saints and vikings he made some amazing throws

Although this may be true, understand one thing....he was never game planned for in any of those games, thus he had success. There was no adequate footage of him to fully dissect Matt Moore the QB, so they don't know tendencies, how he plays against x coverage, and the like. This season will be the telling point, because he's had success in cleanup duty. What we will find out this year is if he can adjust once teams actually start to focus and exploit his weaknesses that they find on film. If he can, then we may be dynamic on offense if not.....it'll be Clausen's turn.

Moore will start week 1. However, by week 6 or 7 we will see Clausen play.

Either a mystery injury will happen, or a number of losses will have the fanbase calling for Moore's removal.

if this team starts losing game.....unless Clausen can play on the DL, starting him won't matter.

you have a somewhat of a point yes matt hasn't fully proven himself, but i dont think the way defense's go after him is going to change the outcome that much

i think they got jimmy&pike cuz there tired having a problem at QB and i dont blame them but i think moore is going to start week one. Now whos starting when week 6 comes along is unknown hopefully Matt but if not we have someone to step up that can take his place. The one great thing about this season is that we will have a franchise QB when its over and that will save fox's ass

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
