Two of the "pass heaviest" teams that have won a SuperBowl recently were more balanced in run and pass than people realize.

Philly is probably the most pass oriented team in that list and they have had plenty of troubles in the playoffs.

Balanced offense > Heavy pass.

No doubt about it.

However: Balanced>Pass heavy>Run Heavy...recently.

I don't just look at the winners, but who seems to get to the playoffs year in and year out. Consistency is the word that I continue to use here.

IMO if you keep going to the dance, at some point things will bounce your way and you will take the crown. However doing it the way that we are, getting there every once in a while makes winning the big one that much harder.

If I were a coach, the first goal of the season, every season, is win my 6 division games. After that is get healthy for the playoffs, then make a push for the lombardi.

We just need to get consistent enough to win the NFC South year in and year out.

Defending the run is still more difficult than defending the pass.

I don't see us ever not trying to stop the run first. Making a team one dimensional (sp?) is the best way to defend any team. Yes, we are getting our secondary more athletic, better in coverage, still, stopping the run is still going to be a priority.

I'm sure the goal of the teams offense is to be balanced enough to keep opposing defenses on their heels. Relying on both a dominate run game, and deep passes.

Re-read the title.

They aren't necessarily talking about you specifically. A lot of posts have been pretty much just giving up on Fox.

In case ya been in hibernation. The majority of the fans that have been posting lately have convinced themselves that JR and the Panthers have already decided to move on from John Fox. After all, all the stars are aligned!!!!!

They haven't gave Fox an extension; it's obvious that they are kicking him out and it has nothing to do with the lockout at all!

there hasn't been a pass heavier team than the saints for several years but it wasn't until they actually put some focus on defense and started running the ball that they got where they wanted to go.

imo, the only missing element here is the pass. we are pretty close to having that balance now.

Wasn't it just a few years ago after the Giants won the Super Bowl that everyone was talking about how necessary a good run game and defense are? That's Foxball through and through, and it can still work.

Right now, we are seeing more "pass-heavy" teams, but it still stands that a team must be multi-dimensional to go far in the post-season. New Orleans is a prime example of that. They went 8-8 with one of the best passing offenses in the history of the NFL, but it wasn't until they upgraded their running game and defense that they really did anything with that potential.

Edit: Sorry, just saw Rayzor is saying the same thing. :)

You would have been right if we kept going with last year's team and added the draft. I expect our offense will be much improved from last year but the defense will suffer. Last year we were top 10 in defense and around 22 on offense. This year I expect we will be top 10 on offense and around 20 on defense, at least early in the season.
