I've got no animosity towards him, I wish him the best of luck in Cleveland. Except when he plays us, of course.

Same. I really wish the guy the best, hopefully he goes on to bring that organization out of the shitter. When he plays the Panthers though, get your popcorn ready. It's gonna be bad...

I agree. But there will be a lot of people on this board who would be genuinely annoyed if he goes out and has a good season. And that's kind of sad.

Amongst co-workers and friends, I defended Jake for years. Pointing out his win-loss record, his passer rating, TD/Int ratio....

Until last year... I couldn't defend him anymore. He choked in the Arizona playoff game, and after game 4 of 2009, I knew he was done. And he continued to choke till his "injury".

Pro Sports are a brutal thing. People in them go to work and have thousands if not millions of people critiquing their work. The highest level of success in a sport is almost anti-climatic... because one day, when your body or mind gives out, there's no where else to go but down... or out.

Jake was a great QB for us. He took us to the Super Bowl once and almost did a second time. He helped us become a legit contender for several years, and was a positive role model for the team.

However, all good things come to an end. I don't really like how they abruptly dismissed him... but it was time. I agree with him being released.

Now... the reality of the future...

If he goes to Cleveland and has a productive/mediocre year, I'll be happy for him. Maybe he will be able to recapture some respect with Cleveland.

Likewise if he stutters and has a terrible year, I'll feel some empathy for the guy, because I know he'll be shuffled out the door, and honestly deserves better.

But if he goes to Cleveland and rivals Drew Brees's performance last year... yes... I'm going to be pissed. I will be pissed at him for not showing up like that last year here, and will be pissed at our coaches for not bringing that out in him for many years.

I have a feeling that he'll get more empathy than anything else from me though.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
