Let's talk injuries (knock on an entire log cabin)

So far, so good. I haven't heard anything about injuries just yet... I know there's still guys sitting out due to rehab and such... but it has to be some kind of optimism with Training Camp just around the corner. Guys are healthy and ready to fight it out.

With the amount of youth on the field, does that mean we'll see less injuries? Or does it mean we'll see more considering some guys don't know exactly where to be on the field just yet?

And do we make it out of training camp without any major injuries?

My guess is that we make it out of training camp without any major injuries. I envision a couple of scrapes here and there... maybe something that would cause a couple players to miss the first few games. But then, how does our team react to that sort of situation? Considering we had so many veterans last year when injuries started to pile up and we still struggled.

One bad thing about the youth movement is the depth is pretty horrible.

If martin or godfrey go down, it's a liability.

Munnerlynn is pretty good but there will be dropoff if marshall or gamble goes down.

Linebacker as always is pretty good. Connor could fill in well for beason or anderson. Williams and Anderson could fill in well for Davis. We have a healthy group of balanced Linebackers

DE is pretty bad unless hardy really steps up. Norwood is too small to fill in for brown full time.

DT isn't too bad, there is ok depth but for now the actual ability level is in question. I acutally think they'll be pretty good.

OL is great depth.

TE is decent depth. Nobody can really fill in for King.

WR is unknown. If Lafell, Jarrett, and Edwards work out then depth will be great.

RB is great depth. I think Sutton could fill in very well and Goodson should improve some.

FB is ok.

QB is pretty good. Clausen wouldn't be a disaster.

So on defense we REALLY need to stay 100% or we'll be in trouble.

I think the depth of DT is pretty bad and i also think that Barnidge could easily fill in for King as well as Rosario in passing situations

I think an injury here or there can be masked by strengths in other areas or different schemes. The big problem arises when there are multiple injuries the expose weaknesses and allow opponents to overly exploit. Personally I worry about dl. A couple of dings there and the run defense is non existent on this team. We will be eaten alive.

I think Tank and Leonard will be good run stoppers. However beyond them on the depth chart are basically situational pass rushers, Irvin(from what we've seen), Ed Johnson, and Hayden(wtf). I expect will pick up some big guys that get cut, or will try to land another DT kind of like how we got Leonard or Tank.

We can absorb a few injuries in many areas depth or not. We do a good job of bringing in guys to help out like we did at DT last year. The problem is depth at key positions and frankly the only spot we could have a starter go down and not miss a beat would be at running back. Injuries to Moore or Smith for example won't be easily made up no matter who we have waiting in the wings. If a guy like Beason goes down Connor can take his place. But we will suffer a dropoff no matter how well Connor plays. The same is the case at many positions this year.

The one that I would worry most about is SS.

If Smith goes down, and we can't get Moose on the horn, we could be in for a rough ride.

even if we could get moose, we'd be in for a rough ride. He's not good enough anymore to be a #1. Hasn't been for years. He'd be able to come in, and help, but it would be up to the young guys to step up, or it just wouldn't work. Moose is no longer good enough to be a savior.

with the emergence of Double Trouble..Smitty has fallen some in terms of how damaging his absense would be. Let's not forget we went 2-0 during his last suspension and that was before Double Trouble really arrived on the scene. I am not saying it wouldn't hurt but the Panther ground game is now the main threat and Steve is a close 2nd.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
