Pick 3....

So I was looking at our past drafts and I found out that the last 4 drafts have produced 12 starters. This doesn't include guys who get significant playing time either...like Stewart, rosario, barnidge, brown, or munnerlyn. It also doesn't include guys fighting for a starting spot...like Connor, Robinson, Irvin, and Schwartz.

So that's an average of 3 starters per draft in the last 4 years. So pick 3 players from this years draft that will be entrenched starters in two years.

Some are more obvious than others...here's mine:

1) Jimmy clausen

2) Brandon lafell

3) Eric Norwood

I actually think this draft class has 5 capable starters, but they might not all get the chance for this team...(in order from most likely to start to least likely)

Starters

1. Brandon LaFell

2. Jimmy Clausen

3. Greg Hardy

4. Eric Norwood

5. Tony Pike

Key Rotational Guys (may eventually start)

1. Armanti Edwards

2. David Gettis

3. Jordan Pugh

Special Teams players

1. Robert McClain

2. R.J. Stanford

This how I see it.

Pugh has a tough climb to unseat Martin, but I think time will determine that this was our best draft.

Lafell should start. I think he will this year, eventually.

Edwards will start in 2 years, when Steve Smith is 33 or so. We will need the spark.

Clausen will as well. I think this is Moore's last season with us; if he plays well, he will cost us too much--poorly, we go with our other 3 QBs.

Rashawn Jackson was not drafted, but I think he will become better than Fiametta.

Hardy has the size to take Brayton's spot by next year, but I wonder if he has the toughness.

Norwood could be so good that he finds a home at SLB. He is a true football player and they will want him on the field.

Gettis is a dark horse. He could be no better than Drew Carter, but he is rough and has a tremendous upside.

Pugh could move to CB if Marshall leaves.

Lotta ifs, but we have gotten great value in our recent drafts. E. Brown, Connor, Jarrett (don't laugh), Kalil, D. Williams, Clausen (top 10) were all predicted to go in the first round (Williams went 28th, but was a top ten projection on some sites). Lafell was a second round lock, Norwood was to be gone in the third. Hardy was predicted to be a first round lock in 2008, before injuries and weight issues dropped him. Pike was a third rounder.

The draft has cracks, and when talent falls, like Duke Robinson, we mop up. It has been successful. We didnt need Connor--we had Beason and Morgan (I think).

Free agency? we went after proven special team players who give us depth. Wright, Hudson, Francisco, Witherspoon, etc. were good special teamers. Got better on a budget.

Between 2010-13 (the length of their 4 year initial contracts), it is possible that all 9 of our draft picks in the 2010 draft will not make what Julius Peppers made in 2009.

For the people saying Greg Hardy. If he starts then who wont?

Charles Johnson or E.Brown.

I see Brown as more of a 3rd down specialist. I think that he will see more playing time than he did last year but he will still mostly be used to push for sacks. Which isn't a bad thing he is VERY good at pressuring QB's.

Johnson will possibly be starting and I think that he deserves it. Could end up being a great DE. I know that people were saying he was the strongest player on the team last year. Could be a beast this year.

Honestly I don't really see Hardy starting but I thought I would throw his name out there. He has the potential to be VERY good.
