I was comparing him to Ron. Seattle has to change everything if they want to do it their way. Also ownership changed in 2018 so I have no idea what they are doing now vs the distant ownership model they had going for years. Following Carroll up there was always going to be an uphill fight. I don't think he is willing to change after the last few years and now this trade. Dude already proved he could do it, I'm just not seeing enough adaptability so therefore the Ron comparison again.

The difference is that Pete has been successful at literally every stop. Ron hasn't.

I mean.......sort of.

Losing record at the NYJ, better overall record with the Pats than Parcells(no seasons sub .500), .606 winning percentage with Seattle and a Superbowl, two NC's at USC and a 97-19 record.

He has literally won everywhere but the NYJ.

I mean the usc stint kindof has an asterisk

I mean....someone is going to have to explain the generational prospect part for a guy that spent a LOT of time on the pine behind a projected 4th-5th round pick.

Agreed. Lawrence won a title as a freshman and Arch was only being used as a running threat (and fumbled to boot) in the playoffs as a sophomore. Ewers is very likely never going to be an NFL starter and Arch is the guy teams are tanking for now?

It is one of the wildest things I have ever seen.

Pete really hasn't done anything of note since that final offensive play in the Seahawks second Super Bowl appearance. It's been downhill ever since. In the years since that he's done marginally better than the hapless and embarrassingly incompetent David Tepper led Panthers though. Credit where it's due for that. But that's about it. Not honestly much different than Ron Rivera.

He also created a culture of inconsistent accountability in Seattle with preferential bias toward Russell Wilson that ultimately led to the unraveling of one of the leagues best teams. If I'm being honest him starting off his stint with the Raiders of all teams by bringing in Geno Smith who will be 35 this fall isn't a good way to start things off. The AFC playoff picture is.......crowded. That locker room isn't going to have a great deal of patience for Pete's "guys" if they start hitting bumps in the road which is likely given the competitiveness in the conference.

It really is. If he truly was amazing, he should have supplanted Ewers in 2024 or been so insulted that he transferred. Lawrence and Fields were “generational” ranked and Lawrence started day 1 as a true freshman and Fields bailed on Georgia when he didn’t play and took OSU to the 4 team playoffs as a sophomore. Arch wasn’t close to either. It’ll be interesting to see if he develops but based on the hype, it’s amazing that he spent two years as a backup and is finally the guy as a junior. This should be his last college season and we’ve never really seen him play. 2/3 of his entire passing career were against a team that went 3-5 in the Sun Belt and a 2-10 Mississippi St team.

So, after the Super Bowl loss the Seahawks went 87-59-1 in 9 seasons, with 8 winning seasons and 5 playoff appearances.

Under Tepper we have gone 36-80, with 0 winning seasons and 0 playoff appearances.

I really don't think you have a firm grasp of the phrase "marginally better." Those results would quite literally result in statue outside the stadium in Carolina.

I will never understand basically anyone shitting on Pete Carroll and doing it in the context of the Panthers nor their current and former head coaches. We have never had anyone in the same argument as Pete Carroll, who will literally most likely be a HOF coach.

That's one of the most lightspeed insane takes I have ever seen here.

He got a massive bag from Texass to stay and the rest has been history. I will say that if he doesn't look like a Heisman candidate next season, you cam go ahead and raise that "future bust" flag all the way to the top of the pole.

If you're a Pete Carroll fan that's cool. Makes no difference to me though.

As a Panthers fan I've had a front row seat to the ultimate highs and the ultimate lows. Losing doesn't bother me one iota anymore. I'd much rather actually have a chance to compete for a Super Bowl than just middling along in a weak conference and maybe hoping to win a playoff game here and there.

If all some fans want to witness are mid to average regular seasons and then folding like a lawn chair after one playoff win like Kirk Cousins did with the Vikings all those years then hey more power to you. Agree to disagree.

I think he is one of the better coaches in the NFL over his coaching career. Likely top 10.

Most of his "average" seasons would in top 10 of Panthers history. I think people really have a distorted view of a franchise with a total of 7 total winning seasons in 30 years of existence. Now all of those 7 are double digit win seasons, so let's compare to Pete Carroll's NFL career.

In 18 years as an NFL head coach, he has had 9 double digit win seasons and 13 total winning seasons. You want Super Bowls?

We went 0-2 in 30 seasons and he went 1-1 in his 18.

Again....I have zero idea how anyone could make this comparison with a straight face or without a massive influx of drugs.

What "mediocre" coach do you want to pick next to compare our franchise to? Andy Reid? Bill Belichick? Mike Tomlin? John Harbaugh?

Mike Macdonald walked right in and won as many games as Pete Carroll has in the last ten years. The NFC has weakened drastically over that same decade. That's just the reality. Being "average" in this rendition of the NFC is not a badge of honor. It's the bare minimum. Even that slob Matt Rhule briefly looked halfway competent early on.

Again. It sounds like you definitely are high on Pete Carroll via whatever affiliation you have I do not know I honestly don't care. But that doesn't require me to share your viewpoint. It's fine to disagree without whatever all this is. Especially over Pete Carroll of all people.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
