Tyler Brayton....

With all the turnover on the D, Brayton survived the purge. high motor and all he doesn't fit into the youth movement and doesn't make sense at all why hes running with the first team at RDE... which is usually destined for the best pass rushing DE. I love his intensity on game days but hes simply not a pass rusher more of a high effort type... i would much rather see E Brown, Johnson, or even Hardy ( after hearing reports from camp) run the RDE where the best pass rusher is suppose to line up..... any thoughts?...

Not saying he's a bad player at all but for the best pass rush i believe he needs to work on the left side

Actually Brayton is much quicker than folks give him credit. Go back when he came into the league and compare him to Brown and Johnson, he had better measurables including cones drills, 40 yard dash and was stronger. The reason he doesn't get much hype is because he often gets doubled off the line. Last year our defense was shifted so that Peppers and Lewis had 1 on 1 matchups while Brayton often took on double teams.

As for where he should play, lets see what the team runs this year. The same 4-3 under over as last year or more of a straight up 4-3 or some variation like the Miami 4-3.

seniority gets the RDE starting spot. been that way for a long time and on many teams.

even with that...pass rusher is primarily used/needed on passing downs. need the best run stuffers/containers on other downs which is what brayton is. he is better than anyone on run support. he isn't a liability on the pass rush either but they will probably have someone rotated in on passing downs or shift him to NT like they did last year when they did the 3 man rushes.

he only has like 16 sacks in his 8yr Career... Cj has 10 in three years. say what you want but that's not a lot of production it screams back up role 2 sacks a yr.... Paltry numbers for a starter...

Brayton was miscast in Oakland for years and never reached his potential. He is much better in our system. And as i mentioned he is not out there to pile up the sacks. The line is skewed to the other side so they can pile up the sacks. His job is to take on 1 or 2 players in run defense and pressure the passer when they throw on those downs. He moves inside on passing downs because he can still get better push than out DTs. That could change this year with Tyler and Louis.

Last year he was second in sacks with 5.

Zod put it well last year. He said Brayton was 1 step away from being a pro bowl player at DE. He led the D line in tackles and was second in quarterback pressures with 24 and 7 quarterback hits. Not bad for as little as we pay him.

Your showing you don't know much about Brayton. He was moved from DE to Jack LB then to DT in oak. Needless to say he was never allow to develope the first part of his career. He is just now coming into his own.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47371200/sources-rams-fire-special-teams-coordinator-chase-blackburn LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Rams have fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move marks the first in-season coaching change that Rams head coach Sean McVay has made in his nine seasons in Los Angeles. Rams assistant special teams coach Ben Kotwica will take over and become the lead special teams coach, a source told Schefter. The Rams, 11-4 and second place in the NFC West, lost to the Seahawks on Thursday night in a game that included a Seattle punt return for a touchdown and a missed 48-yard field goal by Los Angeles kicker Harrison Mevis. The Seahawks (12-3) overtook the Rams for first place in the division and the top overall record in the NFC thanks to the 38-37 overtime victory. Though the Rams have lost only four games this season, three have involved special teams miscues. In the Rams' first loss of the season, 33-26 to the Eagles, Los Angeles had its final two offensive possessions end with blocked kicks. In the Rams' Week 10 victory over the Saints, kicker Joshua Karty missed an extra point and a 39-yard field goal attempt. After the game, McVay said the Rams' special teams issues "can't continue like this." Los Angeles replaced long-snapper Alex Ward with Jake McQuaide and Karty with Mevis, who had not missed a kick until Thursday night in Seattle. Blackburn, 42, was in his third season as the Rams' special teams coordinator. A former linebacker for the Giants and Panthers, he also has worked as an assistant with Carolina and Tennessee.
    • It was a bad play from Icky but the OL didn't give up a sack until late in the 4th quarter and Bryce just stood there like he was canatonic. If our 3rd year number one overall pick can't overcome one single sack against a rebuilding Saints team that should only have 2 wins this season then it isn't ever going to happen   This is your quote. I mean I’ve quoted it twice. It was followed by calling people that defended him fugers and several other meltdowns I can also quote.    Shame you for working for a living??? Wow this is a whole new level to your victim mentality thing you like to do. You don’t have to watch games live. Or don’t spend an entire thread arguing about something you didn’t get the full picture of. I miss parts of games all the time. That’s just life. Not even going into the whole losing all respect thing.
    • Rams ended up firing ST coach and former Panthers coach Chase Blackburn after the loss. Sounds all too familiar.
