So you are benching a player with 15million salary??

That's all-pro money he is right around Vita Vea and Ed Oliver!!

You can continue to defend this, but this is clear massive overpay.

You didn't my first question, try to answer this one- Did you know tershawn wharton before Panthers signed him?

You are also aware of measurables- Compare to either arob or dbrown, he's about 4 inches shorter and around 50 LBs lighter.

This was a panic signing after Milton left them at the altar.

The only saving grace is Brandt Tilis must have stood up on the table and believed he will be a future all-pro.

Keep on eye on this.

Panthers will have the most expensive backup DL in the NFL.

It was an overpay, but he and Milton Williams had similar years on similar snap counts. Ideally we would’ve held out for the draft as there are a lot of those 5tech guys this year. But it’s not a rookie position. One injury away from trotting Nick Thurman back out there even with a draft pick. Quality pass rush from the 5 comes with a price. Yes it was steep, but he gives you more pass rush than a lot of guys at that spot.

Truth be told, form afar stats-wise he does seem on miltons level and maybe better against the run.

He's small, there's not other way to said it, others can claim hes not....but how is this guy a replacement for Dbrown or Arob?? He is not and was given all-pro money.

I have gogglefu him and will report the good- Kyle Long said he was the hardest guy to block 1 vs 1.

He can eat and RIP to teppers million once he orders this-

He's got "juice" aka energy, he makes everyone rise theirs.

I hate to end on a low note- he torn a ACL in 2022

He's got to wreck and win games given his money...... Brandt Tilis has insight with the 5 years he's been watching.

The Nerd is on watch now.....

People have to remember we are a 3-4 base now, average weight for them is around 285 not 310+ like a traditional 4-3 DT, he's also a little on the shorter side (most of the best 3 and five techniques in the last 20 years have been) gives them a lower center of gravity.

The contract isn't quite atrocious. At the very least, there's a simple out after year 2. We're basically on the hook for 2 years, $30 million with the option to keep him on for a 3rd year at $15 million if he actually plays up to the contract. And in 2027, $15 million will probably be average starting DT salary.

Man, Brandt Tillis is already earning his paycheck.  I love how he structures contracts in length and ability to get out if it turns out the player isn't worth it and we need to cut bait.

Compare Wharton and Browns contracts together vs Milton Williams.  I really wish we could see the breakdown of the what the Panthers offered him cause Milton made bank.

Honestly the Williams deal is structured pretty well. Less than half of that contract is guaranteed money and they have an out after year 2(same as our deal with Wharton). Wharton's deal is 2/3 guaranteed money.

Not trying to be an ass but where are you seeing their deals?

For sure.  I was more pointing out overall. Wharton has 30 mil gtd vs Miltons 51.  Wharton 3 years vs Miltons 4.  The dead money is you want to get out of the contract after 2 years.

Milton's is well structured too with a crap ton of incentives.  It's just much bigger than what we gave Wharton/Brown.  I'm glad to see we have a ceiling, even players we really want.

    • Just as we won those close games we could have just as easily lost them. So the jury is out on if we were more lucky than good ( see the sweep by the saints) Were moving forward on paper. And how badly dont we all want to see us back to at least Above average form. Its about time.
    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
