Cried like a baby yesterday....

Took ole Daisy to have her put down.

She had gone downhill fast over the last couple months. Gotten to a point where she was uncomfortable all the time. Yesterday morning she needed my help to get up from laying down, so it was time.

Took her to the vet, who agreed it was the humane thing to do.

She laid there with her head in my lap looking up at me as I petted her and assured her what a good girl she had been. Wasn't 20 seconds until she was asleep.

I won't lie. I didn't cry. I sobbed. I had not sobbed like that for many years, probably since the passing of my paw paw. Losing a pet sucks. I can't even imagine what it must be like to lose a spouse or child. Must be one thousand times worse. Makes my heart really go out to those families that much more.

Anyways, I think this qualifies as one of those times men are allowed to cry in the man rule book. Someone please verify.

Yes, that really sucks... I had to do the same thing with our dachsund that we had for 14 years in 2006... one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

I feel your pain. I had to have my dog of 12 years put down a few months back, and it broke my heart. This is one of the few times it is acceptable for a man to cry. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Sorry, Zod. Just know this...down the road you'll feel peace knowing that you were there when she needed you to be. I know that's not much solace right now, but trust me, down the road it will make a huge difference when you think about her. I sobbed like a little girl the first time I did it, too. A week of dread (or longer) doesn't prepare you for it.

Sorry to hear about Daisy. My dog is just a little more than a year old, and I dread the day I have to go through this. It's certainly okay for a man to cry over his dog, in my opinion.
