The Panthers Are Not Signing Any High Profile Players

Honestly this needs to be stickied. Everyday I come to the huddle and everyday I see threads, oh Antonio Bryant got cut, oh we should pick up Vincent Jackson.

Today it was Who'sYourMama.

Lets make this perfectly clear the only players the Panthers sign this year will be cheaper players signed off waivers.

The Panthers are not signing ageing veterans or players that are currently injured or suspended and we sure as hell are not signing anyone that is going to cost us a lot in gaurenteed money.

End of Story.

we can hope, can't we?

they have to be realizing that the offense as it is just isn't going to cut it this year.

i don't expect them to and it would shock me if they did but still it would make sense.

they should have gone after boldin and they should go after housh.

beyond that, i've never really been crazy about the others that have been hyped and didn't really consider them at all realistic options. boldin was a realistic option and housh is also.

why is everybody going off of a shitty pre season and acting like thats how we r going to play? hell, we barely ran the ball at all in all 4 pre season games, thats a sign right there we r just trying out random bs, we will be fine come next sunday

do you honestly believe that we have WRs not named smith that we can rely on? i sure don't.

i do think they will improve with smith being on the field and some experience. things will settle down for the young guys but i don't think that it will get a whole lot better.

until we have a legit WR2 across from smith that offense is going to be hurting and it will be the thing that holds this team back.

until they show that they can be better, they have given little reason to believe that they will be. based on what we have seen, there isn't much to be confident about.

Signing a guy over 30 more a couple mil almost never works out.

Boldin would have been nice but Richardson isn't going to sign a big contract in the mist of his stance on players being overpaid. It would jeopradize his entire arguement.

We are trying to develop a young team from the inside out. Why sign a 30 yeard old vet for 2 years when you probably don't have a superbowl caliber team.

I agree then when 89 gets back on the field things will get alot better, but its more of the D focusing more on him, in the pre-season, we basically started rookies at X and Z and that makes it super easy for the D to gameplan for, plus there was no double trouble, when 89 is out there things will open up more and they will get more opportunities, I think LaFell has great potential, Gettis as well, and hopefully Moore can play like he plays in TC come game time, I think we can be a solid team this year with what we have, no need for high priced vet's.

Who knows, maybe if we do well this year with r team on a budget other teams will notice and try the same and in the near future teams will opt for cheaper talent and cry baby vets wanting all this damn money will either take a pay cut from what they want to play or be out of a job. Same goes for rookies taken high in the draft

    • This ^. It's a back-up QB position filling. It's a bit of improvement at QB2 and it was something that was becoming obvious. Thanks to Andy for putting in the miles here, but it's been a long career and the days were getting shorter.
    • Lloyd and a 2nd rounder who eventually earns the starting spot? Trevin Wallce as depth where he belongs? Middle of the field looking a helluva lot better.  If we can somewhat get pressure with 4, ohh wee mayne.
    • We're through one day of the legal negotiating window. Who are the best free agents still available? Here are NFL analyst Matt Bowen's top remaining names (including one player who will soon be released):   Trey Hendrickson, Edge Rasheed Walker, OT Braden Smith, OT Riq Woolen, CB Kyler Murray, QB* Romeo Doubs, WR K'Lavon Chaisson, Edge Jauan Jennings, WR Greg Newsome II, CB Taylor Decker, OT There’s a few OTs here, hope we can get one but no clue what kind of $$ these guys are commanding. A couple older guys and a guy that recently got arrested on a gun charge. Give me one of the older guys on a 2 yr deal to get us by and this FA will have been just about perfect.
