Did Jerry put the league over his team and fans? Game after game in the preseason it was clear that we had alot of #3 and 4 wr and no number 2. Chance after chance went by where we could have gotten a solid number 2 and Jerry would not let Hurney pull the trigger on a deal. Instead he is trying to be the model for other teams too follow with a lockout looming. Before we blame the coaches and player remeber this is all under Jerry's Budget.

Jerry has sold us down the river and is proud of it.

The owners, particularly a faction of aggressive, entrepreneurial Goodell confidants (Jerry Jones, Robert Kraft, Pat Bowlen, Jerry Richardson) who want a CBA that accounts for the high-risk investments they’ve made on new stadiums and other capital expenditures. For the most part, the owners are unified in their belief that they agreed to a lousy deal when the current CBA was extended in 2006, and that the players currently receive too great a share of their adjusted gross revenues. At last March’s NFL owners meeting in Orlando, Fla., the Carolina Panthers’ Richardson gave a fiery speech in which he exhorted his peers to “take back our league” by forcing a more favorable deal down the throats of the players. This is likely to be accomplished in the form of a lockout, though it’s possible that the owners could opt for a milder approach: negotiating to impasse and imposing terms of their choosing, which might compel the players to strike. DeMaurice Smith, the NFLPA’s executive director, is convinced that a lockout is coming, and a majority of his constituents – many of whom are more engaged and informed than is commonly perceived – share this belief.

Jerry should have fired Fox and made a move. That was the one thing he should have done....I got no problem with the other stuff he is doing. Keeping Fox another year is pointless.

I agree with you even thou I feel Fox is a good coach and will have a job faster then we will have his replacement. This offseason Jerry was more concearn about the CBA then his team.

I agree. If you're going to rebuild a system, start up top. I have never heard of a team getting rid of everybody and keeping the same coach there. It makes no sense.

The fact is, it was CHEAPER to keep Fox and that is why Fox is there. It had nothing to do with what is best for the team!!! Jerry is trying to prove a point by looking cheap and it's backfiring because no other owner is going along with his plan other than maybe Jacksonsville! He looks like a fool right now.

I don't post here a lot, but I read the boards almost every day. Why does everyone keep talking about JR's budget like he's saving money? He's giving away free money to Delhomme... getting nothing in return. I think this strategy (while we may have a rough season this year) is great for the long term. You have to consider a few things...

1. Fox will most likely not be back next year. I get the feeling that this has already been decided and acknowledged between the two parties. The new coach is going to come in and basically have a clean slate and will be able to pick his QB, will have the option of signing or letting our FA's walk... the new coach will need players in his system. I think this would be a very attactive situation for someone like Fraizer or McCoy (just the two names I've heard the most that aren't Cowher). He has studs like Williams and Beason they they can keep. He has three young QB's to choose from. He will have a ton of cap room... which leads me to my next point.

2. I don't really understand all the money aspects of the NFL, but someone (Pat Y, Gantt, I don't remember) said we're going to be $65- $70M under the cap next season. Whenever there is football again... there will be a cap.

I admit, that I don't really understand why we didn't really bring back someone like Moose for a one year deal... but that's honestly the only move I see as questionable. We don't want to bring in a bunch of free agents on long term deals when we have no idea what direction the team will be moving... it's not about lining JR's pockets, it's about keeping under the cap. JR paid out a lot to clean house, but did it in a year when the cuts won't impact the salary cap.

Granted, Richardson is a leader among the owners and wants to set the example. I don't deny that, but you're not going to be a leader among the owners if you put crap on the field every year. You have to be fiscally smart (with both your money and the salary cap) and still manage to put a winning team on the field. Will we make the playoffs this year? Maybe not. I live in Arizona so I have to get raped by Direct TV each year on the Sunday Ticket just to see Panther games. Does it bother me that I paid to watch that crap yesterday? Yes, but I believe we will eventually get it together. I think we have a shot at making the playoffs, we just need a few guys to step up... you know what the good news is though? If those guys don't step up then next year when the new coach comes in then we're not strapped to them by a cap.

      with arm strength people often get stuck on the distance  arm strength in the NFL is moreso measured in speed / velocity .which of course is how long does it take for  the ball to travel from the time of release until it reaches its target ? & u beat world class speed with more speed on the ball...just saying

      No GM hits 100%. I'm well aware. But what a GM has to do is look at the roster, what's available, and future contracts and go from there. XL was a one season wonder in college. He has speed. Who cares. He body catches and his hands are bricks. Speed doesn't matter when you don't actually have the ball. There were other receivers available with better resumes. XL was a project. Fitts loved projects. You don't have the luxury of projects when you just traded away DJ for a QB. 1st round WRs need to contribute now.  Brooks was a luxury RB pick we didn't have the luxury to make. Who cares if Dallas was going to pick him. We had holes all over our defense. Chuba was coming off a fresh contract. We just inked 150m interior line and then centered it by moving a guard to center that had suffered 2 season ending injuries. The most critical area on our line was being held together by a bandaid and a prayer. No surprise when it didn't work.   Wallace is getting better but Wilson was sitting there waiting to be taken. DPOY for college football right there for the taking. That was a gimme pick. If you're going to take a risk on an injured player, the 3rd round for Wilson made a whole lot more sense at a position we were rest stop TP thin at.  4th round and on aren't going to be heavy contributors unless you're lucky.  He did well on the trade for Jackson. Coker, I believe he offered the largest guarantee. He actually got more than some late round picks make.  Those 1st 3 picks, IMO, were straight up whiffs.  Looking back at Fitterer's picks, I think he tried to plug holes because we had a ton of them. Problem was, he wasn't very good at it and he loved RAS scores and developmental players with a coach that couldn't develop a Polaroid. He tried to do too much. He was impatient. His other problem was he panicked during the draft and couldn't read or understand the flow of how drafts tend to go. DJ Johnson was the prime example. We needed an edge rusher and he jumped in at the end of the run instead of starting it.  Morgan's first year looked exactly like Fitts to me. Lots of projects.  2nd year looks better.  We'll see how 3rd year goes. FA also plays into all of this as well but that's a whole different topic of how it played out and planning with regard to drafting.

      I judge how good our players are by the way a defense covers them. XL draws no special coverage. Coker on the other hand always has a man over the top. It still doesn’t matter. You be the judge.
