Ugly loss = good thing? It could teach our young Panthers a much needed lesson.

Now before you guys take me the wrong way, like some did when I said it was wrong to put so much hope into Steve Smith, please understand I was very upset at the way we played yesterday, especially our OC's playcalling, and Matt's performance. (although if it is true Matt got the concussion before he threw those pics, then that may explain some things.)

But even though I tend to start off as a skeptic, I like to look at the bright side of things in the end. And in the end, I think this loss gives our young team an unforgetable lesson and could prove to make us a much better team this year.

That lesson is: Winning in the NFL is hard! Every mistake counts, both those that you make and those you don't take advantage of, and playing as a team is everything, and it could mean someone getting seriously hurt when you don't.

If we would have squeeked out a win against the Giants, it could have sent the wrong message to our young team, ("hey this is easy!") and if not that, then certainly it would have given them a false sense of what I like to call premature confidence(Jimmy I'm thinking of you too when I type that). That could have ended up biting us in the ass later in the season, when competition really gets fierce.

But I think a loss like that really humbles a team, and in the case of rookies, I don't think it discourages them like it can happen with veterans when they get beat up, but rather it gives them a reality check and wake up call.

I have a feeling this is going to make all of them practice harder and pay more attention in film room. And Matt, if he comes back as our starter, will certainly try to be a little more alert about what's going on in the pocket. One good thing you can say about him, that I learned yesterday is that he has some guts. He's not afraid to take a hit that's for sure!

What do you guys think? Do you agree this loss will make us a better team in the long run than if we would have gotten a victory yesterday?

personally i'm encouraged that a few of our assumed weak spots were pretty damn good looking. our young guys are going to get better with time (pretty quickly too, i'd wager.)

the problem areas (principally the offensive line, which is the key to fixing the run game and then, to some extent, QB) are nearly all veteran-based and they should find their groove over the next game or so.

a win against tampa bay would do wonders.

i agree in theory. but because we are so young, they might keep making the same mistakes all season long......god i hope not.

Well I'd like to think that they are just young, not retarded.

In fact the opposite is probably more true, and my point. Had we have won that game, with them making all those mistakes, then THAT might have gotten them to make the same mistakes all season long.

yeah but some of the biggest problem areas were with the o line (which was supposed to be good), secondary (supposed to be good), and then the qb (not expected to do so good., but it wasn't his first game, he should have known better)

BUT....if some of moore's decisions were caused by his injury, it was the coaching/trainer's fault for leaving him out there.

Quality post. These young guys, hopefully, will push themselves every day at practice and get better. If we're lucky, by the end of the season, we can have something to hang our hat on going into what looks like a 2011 lockout. Then, 2012, very successful season. Then again, could get our asses kicked. God I do not know how I truly feel about this team right now. Keep on the sunny side of life, right?

that game was so winnable, too many mistakes,I hope Meeks and Fox lit a fire under thier asses!Hopefully Fox doesn't get Seifertitus and start sabbotaging the team!

I hope Fox lights the fire under his own ass or under whoever was responsible for those calls from the 4 yard line....not even TRYING a run is absurd.

Seriously, we as fans should expect a young team like this with so many rookies to make some mistakes. The Giants made even more.

But the coaches know what they are dealing with also. And there is no excuse for the coaching. No excuse for those calls.
