DeAngelo Wiliams to Pats? (Just an idea)

Hey guys, I'm a fellow Pats fan. I typed, "carolina panthers intentions of resigning deangelo williams" into a Google search engine and eventually came to this place looking for answers and discussion.

A.) What do you think the chances are of DeAngelo leaving following 2010?

B.) Do you believe DeAngelo will be tagged in some way by the franchise (transition tag, franchise tag, ect.)?

C.) How likely is it that DeAngelo Williams is traded (ideally during the next offseason)?

I'm not here to damped anyones 2010 NFL season. However, DeAngelo Williams is my favorite NFL runningback and I think he is probably the best in the entire league. With some trade history between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, I think it would be pretty fitting if, come 2011, the Patriots trade a package of draft picks to an evolving Panthers team. With great players to fill the void at runningback, (i.e. Jonathan Stewart, Tyrell Sutton, Mike Goodson), and with some new types of players and maybe even staff members bound to be brought aboard, some draft picks would make a lot of sense for the Carolina Panthers future, no? With money being what it is right now and the facts as they are, I would be surprised and a bit disappointed -- as a Pats fan -- if DeAngelo were to re-sign with the team that drafted him (the Panthers). At age 28, with some milage just beginning to move the meter, DeAngelo Williams might not be a worthwhile investment should there be other assets elsewhere on the team that are believed to be in greater need of attention. Who knows, maybe the Patriots would be willing to offer up Logan Mankins? That might not be the best idea though since Ryan Kalil, another interior offensive linemen, is already set to be a free agent.

What do you think? Incite would be greatly appreciated.

While the fan in me thinks it should at least take a first rounder, I know that more then likely it would be a 2nd and a 5th or something similar to that. If the Panthes have decided that they aren't going to re sign him then it wouldn't be a bad trade to make considering Carolina already has Stewart and Goodson. I myself wouldn't like it, but it would make some since.

How much fun would it be to watch him on the Pats offense? It would be like the 90's Cowboys all over again except with more weapons to go around on offense and better players all around. Tom Brady, Randy Moss, DeAngelo Williams, Wes Welker, younglings Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Tate, and Taylor Price in combination with a great head coach comparable to Jimmy Johnson, and a good, developing rest of the team. Hate or no hate, Panthers fans, this team would be fun to watch at least for the sake of greatness. Not trying to pour onto this place my Patriots fandom or take away from the Carolina Panthers team spirt; just a random outsiders observations.

Fucckkkkk that.. d.will is one of the few panthers i would call untouchable..and although this is only my opinion i feel its pretty rational. Among those players i would include would be beason,smitty. And even though our team may get draft picks or whatever i really don't see it being worth it for him or even jstew.

I really like what we have at running back right now,our two headed monsters is the sickest in the league and i hate it when the idea of beaking them up comes up. These guys get along great they seem to understand and welcome them idea of splitting the load... and that's awesome to have 2 rb's with that same mindset.

And as far as resigning them goes would have to say (and i could be wrong ) that dwill doesn't seem greedy or like someone who would demand an insane deal and as lon as we would give him a deal that was within reason he would resign without a problem... i don't see him as being one to demand being the highest paid running back

DeAngelo wouldn't go anywhere for anything less than a first.

And even then, it'd still probably take an extra pick.

AND EVEN THEN..it still likely wouldn't happen.

Blockbuster trades don't happen in the NFL, and, no matter how many Panthers fans wanna carry around that "Grass is Always Greener" mentality, DeAngelo is a Blockbuster player.

No matter what any troll here wants to believe, there's a reason we've been saving so much money for next offseason.

I agree with you, I'd feel the same way from a fans perspective. This is great feedback, thanks. Realistically, what do you see the team doing though? Any particular process or chain of events you see happening?

      Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.

      Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
