Bengals not giving Clausen much thought

so how do we get the run game going when 8 or 9 players are in the box? throw in predictable game planning.. and people expect what out of run game?

pass protection wouldn't be such an issue if defenses couldn't tee off on that predictable game planning... and without any threats at WR, you can send however many people you want..

I hope if I repeat myself enough people will start looking at the real issues here.. ;)

Davidson will run the same offense out of the same formations they have done the past 3 seasons. Each game they add one new formation they mix in for that specific game in rare moments.

Didn't say he would do it, just saying that it would be a better option than what they are trying to do now.

And yes, Bleys, I'm with you on the playcalling and game planning. I'm not sure if the game plan is coming from Davidson or if this is Fox's doing.

I gotta say, I think that this game will hinge on our protection for Clausen. Yep, Cincy's cb's are notorious and in their prime so we should be looking to mix it up with the TE's and the RB's . WHERE'S BARNY AT?!?! He better show up somewhere on Sunday along with 88 and 47.

And yeah, Davidson isnt gonna be adding a bunch of stuff although I do think he will do a decent job of playing to our "strengths". We'll see if our "strengths" are up to the challenge.

yeah, but see bleys point. When a D knows run or pass and specific plays added to that....it makes life too hard on the OL in both aspects of play. Davidson running the same stuff year after year is just letting D's tee off on plays in both the run and pass.

they got the best duo at CB in the entire NFL. they can afford to do that against better QBs than Clausen. The kid from Rock Hill gets no media love...but he is flat out tough.

That best duo in the NFL has the Bengals ranked 15th in pass defense while we are ranked 19th. The difference is that when you consider Yards per attempt surrendered they are 5th at 5.6 (meaning they give up lots of short passes) while we are 29th at 9.0 meaning we give lots of long passes. We are both giving up 200 yards per game but they are getting thrown on more than we are.

If they actually put anybody 1 on 1 on Smith, I would be throwing to him all day.

I am excited to see if they really go 1 on 1 with Smitty.. that will be our biggest opportunity in the pass game.. we also will see if Smitty 1on1 is the '05 guy, or if he's not quite got what he used too..

and if they are giving up short passes, I would HOPE that Davidson/Fox/whoever the f**k, actually game plans against this and look to move down the field on short passes... if/when successful I would expect the run game to open up quite a bit as well... and maybe we can get Gettis down the field on a few streaks after that..

well, they will have chances, there will be plays they put Joseph on him one on one. Granted, they will tee off on Clausen when they do it.

doesn't matter what the stats show, no team has 2 better corners working together imo. J. Joseph out of Rock Hill is one of the most underrated guys in the league right now. I mean the stats don't show we have even have one of the best 1-2 duos at RB....but we do.
