Clausen compared to other QBs first NFL start

First NFL start statistics:

Troy Aikman- 17/35 180 yards no TDs 2 INTs

Tom Brady- 13/23 168 yards no TDs no INTs (followed by 12/24 86 yds no TDs no INTs and 2 lost fumbles the next week)

Not time to press the panic button yet folks. Lets give him a couple of more games to get acclimated.

(Can edit and add more, just got lazy)

NO thanks on Troy Aikman- he went 0-11 his rookie year and the next year he went 6-5 before he was hurt and Beuerlein came in. Anyone up for a 6-16 stretch the next 2 years in the hopes he gets better the following year.

Brady on the other hand while his first 2 games were not statistically great ended up having a 79 passer rating the first game but they beat the Colts 44-13. His second game he had a rating of 59 in a 30-10 loss to the Dolphins. Then in his third game he had 2 scoring drives in the 4th quarter and another in Overtime to win the game. Then the next week in a rematch with Indy he had a passer rating of a 148 in another win.

Yeah if Clausen can dramatically improve over the next 2 or 3 weeks to where he has a passer rating of 148 then he is the man. But if he stays around a passer rating of 50, then I want who can win now not 3 years down the road.

OK, so you will only consider him if he puts up gaudy numbers or if we win? What if he only improves a little from week to week? We aren't working with the Patriots here exactly. Also, if Clausen isn't your choice, who do we have that can win NOW? You know as well as anyone on this board how the Panthers operate, and I am kinda surprised to be reading this from you. Talent-wise, I think we are somewhat comparable to what Atlanta had Ryan's first year, so I think that kind of production from Jimmy is as good as we can hope for at this point.

No rookie QB's going to put up phenomenal numbers his first game. I think Jimmy made some progress this week, he made mistakes during the game, made some throws he shouldn't have made but he's young, smart, and his cerebral prowess can adapt

we gain nothing putting moore back in. With 3 more years in this exact same system he's no better than Jimmy, there's no sense in breaking Jimmy's development now and depriving him of the in-game experience he could use.

Plus, this team is not playoff worthy. Finishing 3rd in the division is an optimistic goal. The receivers are just not very good right now, the Oline is struggling, the defense is getting turnovers and playing ok but not great, and John Fox is just not motivated so...

I think it's absurd they quit on Moore after 2 games in a year where the team is rebuilding yet stuck with Delhomme's poor play for nearly 2 years when the team was much stronger.

Moore and Clausen get blindsided 2-3 times a game and have terrible play calling and a stale running game going against them.

The fact they quit on Moore instead of fixing the play calling, run game and oline suggests they are incompetent and will simply throw Clausen to the wolves. I feel bad for Clausen. Hopefully with his mobility he will be able to avoid a serious injury.

he's only got to survive 13 more games and then we can convert our top 5 pick into a new OT to replace "glass jaw" otah.

    • Bryce hasn't done a single thing to prove he deserves to have his option picked up.  I'd have less of an issue with us declining the option and bringing him back as the starter next year than I would have us picking up that option, as that means he's on our cap books for the next 2 years instead of 1, even if he's cut before year 5. Tua threw for 3,500 yards with a 25-8 TD-INT ratio in just 13 starts the year before they picked up his option, and then threw for over 4,600 yards before they gave him his extension. Kyler threw for 3,722, 3,971, and 3,787 in 16, 16, and 14 games (while rushing for 544, 819, and 423 in those seasons) before they picked up his option and then signed him to an extension before year 4. Jones threw for 3,200 yards with a 3-1 TD-INT ratio with another 700 yards and 7 TDs rushing in year 4 before they signed him to his extension. Bryce has thrown for 2,877 and 2,400 yards in 16 and 12 starts his two seasons, while being on pace for 3,128 yards in a 17 game season so far this year. The closest comparison to any of them was Jones, who while he's turned it around this year, is someone I think everyone can agree was not a player who deserved that extension after that season. If people think those other QB's having their options picked up and/or given extensions were a mistake, in what world can you look at what Bryce has done and make any rational argument for him even being brought back as our starter next year, let alone also picking up his option that would cost us about $27 million fully guaranteed.
    • I don't think we would actually play Hooker but hopefully we also just don't see. I don't view Dalton/Bryce as a worse option than Winston/Howell. I just think we disagree on this specific subject is all.
    • I guarantee tepper would fire him if we lost out and he’d be justified
