Jimmy Clausen Press Conference. I feel bad for this kid. Jimmy stop this now.

Smith was having a pretty good streak of games until this Clausen fellow became QB. With Moore he had like 6 straight games with a TD.

Moore couldn't do much but he could get the ball to Smitty.

At what cost? For years we've been complaining that our quarterbacks lock in on Smith. I think it's refreshing that Clausen was at least trying to get the ball to LaFell, Gettis, the tight ends and runningbacks.

The Smith connection will come in time -- and more likely as a result of Clausen getting the ball to the other players.

I still think Fox pulled the plug too quick. Moore is a young QB....not much of a shot given in 2010. Especially, considering a concussion was mixed in to his 7 quarters.

so your saying cincy really isn't a better defense then the giants and Bucs?

Next time hopefully Clausen can throw it into a triple covered steve smith in the endzone and get an int...oh wait...

He does not look like himself on that podium. This kid was so not ready to start yesterday. Fox is a bastard. He managed to take two guys that had promise and pretty much destroyed one's career while endangering another's. Fox threw him to the wolves.

Hey Jimmy, here's a couple of tips.

First, I know you have been criticized for putting your foot in your mouth, with me being one of those folks that thinks so but for crying out loud.......loosen up man! I'd rather have a punk or brat with confidence than someone's who "too afraid" to say the wrong thing.

At one point(1 minutes:19 seconds) you said:

"I'm going to listen to what he[smith] has to say and .....you know try to ...whatever he's saying.....you know.....do that....you know.....whatever it may be."

You were going to do whatever Steve Smith wanted? Yeah you do..;).....but.... DON'T SAY THAT ON TV! You are the QB! Smith doesn't RUN this team. Poor Guy. He's behaving with the wrong attitude of acting out of not wanting to make a mistake. STOP IT! GO MAKE SOME MISTAKES!

And second, well it's the same as the first. LET GO! Play then worry about the backlash. Try to not say anything stupid, but don't let that trying stop you from just being yourself.

I have a feeling this could have affected his head a little bit yesterday if he's playing and practicing with that mentality. It's so obvious he needs time to mature, not just as a QB but as a man.

I agree with some of what you said, and disagree with some.

I agree that Clausen shouldn't be saying that on TV.. he needs to be the leader of the team, and right now, he doesn't feel like he is "the guy". And that is the coach's fault for not letting him know. I also agree with the fact that Jimmy should loosen up a bit and play his game.

I disagree with you that Fox is potentially ruining Clausen by throw him to the wolves. I firmly believe that Clausen is becoming a Quarterback by learning on the fly. The best way to become good, is to learn in the field and gain that valuable experience.. not reading a text book and not being able to apply what you are learning. Like you said earlier in your post, "let Clausen makes those mistakes."

Dude, if you really are a "Panther fan for life" then you wouldn't make this such a big deal. This was his first game, he was playing against a team with a great secondary, the weather sucked, Clausen is smarter than Moore by throwing the ball away instead of throwing picks in the end zone all day long. I thought Clausen did fine as his first start

he needs to take his lumps on and off the field. this is part of the maturation process all QBs must go through.

if they can't handle it, it's better to find out sooner rather than later. it's also better for them in the long run if they can get past the awkward rookie phase early. that way they can spend the rest of the time perfecting the other stuff.

Guest DrewBreesIsGod

see David Carr as an example of playing a dude too soon. He got his skull caved in because he was thrown to the wolves...he was so gunshy afterwards, he was never the same QB again

Plus, Josh Freeman became the starter mid-season last year for the Bucs & remained as the starter even though he would throw a few picks per game & the Bucs are now 2-1, tied for NFC South. So this year really is just a rebuilding year. Moore's been a player since 2007 & was training with the 1st string all year so he really doesn't have an excuse for sucking

Both Mr. Scot, who is by far and away the most unbiased, least-homerish and most football knowledgeable poster here, and Zod, who while yes is a smug dickhead, but also happens to watch games from a seat wayyyy better than any of ours and talks to players, think Jimmy will be just fine. So I tend to side with them.

Also, based on what I saw Jimmy looked way better than Moore. Maybe he got a little checkdown crazy, but that will pass with confidence and better oline play.

As far as Smitty goes, he has had QBs for the past seven years who lock onto him and throw to him in triple coverage. Of course he gets upset at a kid that throws underneath instead, even if it is the right move. Smitty thinks he's open every play, even if he's not. I played SS and WR in HS and after every play I'd go back to the huddle and say I was open. Funny thing is, I'd see the other teams WRs get frustrated because they always thought they were open too. Even when I was floating over the top of them for an easy pick. WR's are divas, period.

You guys should be happy. Once Jimmy comes into his own and knows this is his team, he will have confidence that is off the charts. He'll have earned his teammates respect, and will perform at a very high level.

    • I was playing around with the ESPN playoff predictor and it shows if 49ers and Rams finish with same record, the Rams hold the tiebreaker.
    • This is my thinking as well. Seattle played as good as they could on defense and Panthers still had a chance until those back to back turnovers.  I don't think the Rams played particularly well in their game against us, alot things went our way in order to win.  Someone pointed out the Rams were bad on the east coast road games and Seattle has been the better road team but they just fought a hard contested game against the Panthers, and now they travel to San Fran this week for their biggest game of the season to determine the division and if they are the overall #1 seed in the NFC or will be traveling for the Wildcard weekend.  If they lose they then travel back cross the country to play a team they've just beaten two weeks ago, not saying they won't be favored against the Panthers but the energy of hosting our first playoff game in 10 years along with the get back effect of having just lost to this team could be huge.
    • I don’t know about shadowing and all that, but according to this, whatever we are doing is working
