He and Fox were college teammates at San Diego State, and if Edwards is fired by new Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, he could find a soft landing spot in Charlotte while he waits for another head coaching opportunity."

I know im reaching here, but that would be a godsend if he was our DC.

In past years, the Panthers have moved quickly to keep their own. Last offseason, they denied Cincinnati permission to interview secondary coach Tim Lewis for a coordinator job. But this year, they've apparently told all of their assistants they could look elsewhere. Lewis' name was immediately linked to the defensive coordinator opening in Green Bay (along with former Panthers head coach Dom Capers).

Multiple sources told The Herald the team has offered nothing more than one-year extensions to all current deals, which expire this offseason.

General manager Marty Hurney didn't return calls seeking comment, and a team spokesman said Saturday they wouldn't comment on McCoy's reported departure until the Broncos announced his hiring.

Aside from the lack of security they're offering, there's a chance some firings could befoot after a disastrous late-season defensive collapse.

The name that has garnered the most attention -- at least from an angry fanbase -- is defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac.

In my opinion, the foundation for Panthers football is two-fold. A strong running game, which we now have, and the defensive front four. Now I know some posters here would like Tim Lewis to be our DC, but i think he would give too much attention to the secondary.

So who could we bring in at DC that would bring back and use the overpowering front?

Like I said multiple times, wants Mike gone, you should want Fox gone

The Herald reported in 2007 that coach John Fox had effectively taken over Trgovac's defense meetings early in the season. Several members of the organization (both players and from outside the locker room) confirmed that Fox did a similar thing this year, though it was closer to midseason when he began to exert his influence again.

I know Gruden got fired late but if Fox hasn't been fired by now then I doubt he'll get fired now... Plus, look who is available... No one at this point. I mean, Spags went to the Rams, Ryan is going to NY, Schwartz is with the Lions, and Mangini is in Cleveland.... So who would we get? Shannahan? No, he wants to stay out a year... Marty? Ain't going to happen, and of course the most famous name of this board, Bill Cowher? Nope, he wants to stay where he is at.

Point being, don't expect Fox to be fired until we know who will be available next season, if he is fired, which I don't expect it.

      He can’t even learn to run routes. No chance in hell he can do both that and pick up blocking schemes

      Well he had essentially a 70% completion rate for almost three thousand yards.  Biggest issues were awkward and inconsistent release.  I wouldn't call arm strength bad, but not great.

      I see him being better and most of that is a few downfield passes that were seemingly non existent.    But it is what is around him that has dictated the trajectory more than the quarterbacking. He is game manager level and unable to dictate to defenses.  And even if I am wrong and he is the reason we ‘upwarded’, we are bumping our heads on the ceiling and only making meager gains. If it is an incline it is awfully shallow degree wise. Like a finance graph that tracks your progress and hovers around the rate of inflation. Barely breaking even.  Is that where you want your money?  We make up these deadlines expectations and generally he does the minimum of what he needs to do to hang around.    It does not encourage me to believe that when we get into a game against a good run d that we cannot break down with our run game, to believe that we can pivot to the air and successfully counter their strategy.  But they run it back again. Of course I am gunshy of a repeat of the same thing we have watched for three years.    oh, and yes his durability is his most impressive positive for my money. I fear the other shoe dropping on that and the contractual consequences that will follow.   Last  of all, too late to edit my mistake here but would like to acknowledge it: the last three years has done very little to convince me that I was not wrong in not wanting him. One too many “not”s.
