I think the first half they will test Pep out against both. Then leave him wherever he is having the most success.

Peppers is always looking for the easy way, and that is why IMO he won't line up against Gross very much. He'll do it a few times to see if he can get teh best of him and once Gross shuts him down he'll give up and switch sides.

Harris was a great safety, and still is. Anyone who thinks different doesn't watch football. Beason said he was heart broke when we traded him.

Troy Polamalu is a great safety

Ed Reed was a great safety (don't know if he still is)

Chris Harris has always just been above average

I'm glad this thread isn't about the douche bag on Packman's radio show. Did you guys know he and "dimbee" are one and the same?

A side note on my suggestions for improving Charlotte as a sports town:

1. Have our radio hosts be Panthers fans.

2. Have our Panthers forums be moderated exclusively by Panthers fans.

Thanks. Let me know when complete.

No one has handled Peppers so far this year. Gotta give credit where it is due, SO FAR he has been consistant for Chicago.

Gross doesn't look to be the same guy this year. Well, he still false starts all the time but the rest of his play doesn't seem to be back to where he was at one time.

There was a time when I would have said they were evenly matched...so far this season if things remain the same I would give Pep a slight edge.

For a guy with such a high football IQ he gets toasted in coverage far too often.

I think Minter had a good IQ....when you lose it or don't got the speed to begin with you get toasted. Late in Minter's career you could tell a good football IQ doesn't mean you can always get there.

Truth be told, man, Peppers should be doing whatever he can do best benefit his team right?

Anyways if he switches to our right side, Jimmy could be hurtin quick.

If Beason said he's worried about Harris then that's good enough for me. Tough on a young QB and young WR's to have to change the terminology... Bears suck against the run, I'm hoping this is the week we find our running game.

Actually the bears are 6th in the NFL in yds per rush @ 3.5 yds per carry. they have only been ran on 88 times in 4 games, which is 3rd fewest in the league. they have also had 5 rushing TD's scored on them in those 88 rushes, only 2 teams have allowed more rushing TD's (Buffalo -7, Jacksonville - 6). So they do give up the pts on the ground if you can stick with the run.

interestingly enough, the panthers defense is 5th in the league @ 3.3 yds per carry despite being ran on the 3rd most in the league at 136 attempts.

the bears vanunted D is also gives up only 2yds per game less than our "terrible" defense. we just give up a lot more pts so far in the season.

I thought those stats were interesting, it doest seem like to me that the bears defense has been tested on the ground much this year due to the fact that Cutler and co. have been able to score pretty quickly and get a decent lead, causing teams to abadon the run.

If we can slow them down (very possible with a ancient QB), and establish the running game, this could be a good game for us on both sides of the ball.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
