JR is not selling the team

i think there are some misdirected arguments here. some have jr selling the team on their mind and others on him intentionally driving down the value. I think clt panther is on the right path.

Part of the current argument between the owners and players is the teams NOT making money or as much money. That's first coin in jr's pocket right there.

Secondly, as I stated in another thread on a similar misplaced argument about the cba and it's the owners greedy grab or the players yada yada.

The owners realize the golden goose of public subsidies are GONE. For at least the nex 25 years.

That means the leverage is away from owners in terms of holding cities hostage to get stadiums or funds etc. If you can't see that I can do a webinar on the pending financial landscape in pro sports as it relates to unemployment and a lack of tax revenue. For a few New Castles at least.

The teams with the newest stadium deals have the most to lose right now. Look at Jerry Jones or the Irsay's or Bidwells. JR is in a better place thus, he can "afford" to cut costs.

I'm also willing to bet there is a common thread between owners that have slashed payrolls and those that are spending to stay competitive.

Look at the Vikings. They are closer to winning a Super Bowl than the Panthers by miles. But also, they have a NEW stadium deal they are trying to get with the city and state of Minn.

The Bills have had house money for 25 years or more. Now they get revenue from Toronto. They have suckered those "loyal" fans up there to the point they can say and do what they want and like robots those people just keep lining up and giving their money away.

Ill go you one further.

I challenge any of the multitude who are criticizing the way JR is running the team to step up with examples of the last time they turned an 800 million dollar investment into a 1.2 billion dollar return.

Believe it or not it was actually less than that when he bought the franchise. He bought it for 206 mil. With stadium costs you are probably looking at 500 or so.

But, then again, being worth 1.2 billion now isn't saying much... seeing as though in 93 gas cost about 80 cents a gallon!

I was one who said something about selling the team but only used it speaking hypothetically. as for why you would run something into the ground then cash out on it was actually brought up earlier in another post.

Hardees AND Denny's actually.

He also ran Quincy’s Steakhouse into the ground.

Jerry Richardson was managing all this as the President and CEO of the new defunct, Transworld Corporation.

Not the best track record for business ventures IMHO.

Quincy's is gone.

Hardee's and Denny's was sold off because they were about to go under and and had to be majorly restructured. Volume Services America, Inc. was sold and restructured.

Running businesses into the ground and cashing out on them right before they do is NOT the sign of a good businessman. Its the sign of a bad businessman or a crook, and an example of why this country is in the economic mess we are in.

Just saying judging by his track record it wouldn't be the first time he drove something into the ground then sold it.

And don't flip out on me I think the panthers are sticking around for a good long time. (or at least hope so)

It depends on how JR's will reads. He could divy his holdings up between to the two, which would give them a tandem majority. In fact, I'd count on that.

That might be true. But I've read between 12-13 people are in on this. They might want to be bought out before he does pass away. No one knows what is going on and it is all speculation. But I wouldnt be surprised if either he is doing the buying out or vice versa. There hasnt been any rumors I have seen of this going on and honestly I dont expect anything like this to happen. But I am curious who will be the new face of ownership once he does go.

If the team was sold they certainly wouldnt move.

What's the new owner going to do with that big stadium, which is still in the middle of it's life cycle, if he/she moves the team?

And why would the NFL want to leave the Charlotte market anyways? They have been a hit here.

Just because a someone buys a team doesnt mean they can move it where ever they want... the NFL owners as a group decides that.

This is one of the more sane responses....This is bigger than even a series of loosing seasons. The NFL is committed to the Carolinas. I know this for a fact. And belive me, a temper tantrum by Mark will NOT move this team. The Cats may not be playing at BoA in 30 years, but they will be in Charlotte!

If Jerry want to sell, I hope it is to someone who will keep the franchise in Charlotte and

turn the Carolina Panthers into a team that fans can get excited about. Get rid of the dead weight and bring talented players who will fill the stadium.
