Who Will Be the Starting QB and WRs Next Game?

After a full 2 weeks preparation, who do you see lining up as the starters at QB and WR? I mentioned the extended prep period b/c Fox mentioned yesterday how good Clowney looked in the limited time he practiced this week and he was looking forward to seeing how he looked during the next 2 weeks. He also wouldn't commit to a starter and said he's got to find out who can help them get this basement out of the gutter before the next game (he may want to look in the mirror and then a long skim through his 2 page playbook).

Then, you add Devin Thomas, who considering the size/speed combo, will be just as impressive, if not more than Clowney. I've been encouraged by Gettis' development, and look forward to seeing how much he improves each week. I still think we have to find a way to get Armanti out there. At this point, after seeing what LaFail HASN'T done, I think it's best to deactivate him and put guys out there that will make strides with the reps they're given. He isn't getting any better. When he gets open he drops it and usually he doesn't get open... I hope we implement some plays for Armanti during the next 2 weeks and find a way to work him in.

I don't anticipate seeing Smitty back out there for another 3 weeks or so, those high ankle sprains aren't any joke, and if he's out there before then he's not going to be anywhere near 100%.

So who do you think it will be? And perhaps the bigger question is, do you think it will make a difference in the offense?

we need to see a 3 WR set right out of the gate and start passing immediately to get the run game opened up.

hopefully smith will be ready by then but i wouldn't count on it. go with thomas, clowney, an gettis.

substitute clowney for smith if he's good to go. i just don't see that happening, though. something tells me we won't see smith back in action until after we've won a game and clausen isn't making so many errors.

I just made that point in another thread. Smith disappeared in 2007 when Carr couldn't get him the ball either. I am sure he is hurt but as long as he feels the quarterback can't get him the ball I wonder how hard he will try. Seems to me that he prefers Moore feeling that at least Moore can get him the ball and they have history from last year. Unless Clausen can be much better and throw it downfield, I doubt Smitty busts it to get back.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
