Potential Head Coaches

Well, I think we can now officially say goodbye to Leslie Frazier as a candidate.

The scenario that's been speculated on for weeks - Childress being fired and Frazier taking over - has now happened.

Unless he completely tanks, he'll probably get to keep the job next season.

(and if he did completely tank and they let him go, why would you want him?)

Safe to say at this point Frazier is off the table.

You beat me to it, LOL

good point.

at this point i just hope he succeeds there, at least this year. of course that means that he would be taken off the table for us, but that also limits the number of teams going after HCs after this year. same with dallas.

On a Harbaugh note:

I got the chance to talk to someone with the Stanford staff and it doesn't look like he will be leaving the school next year. He is apparently committed to getting Stanford a national title...but of course this can change if they happen to win the Rose Bowl and Harbaugh somehow has a change of heart. You never know, but this is what I've been told from a reliable source. I'm not expecting people to believe me, but I now am convinced he will not coach the NFL for at least another year or two...so he's off my table.

Pick one and only one leave and head to the team that is a prime postion to get your prodigy or stay with Stanford and maybe have a shot at the NC (something that he couldn't do even with Luck)? If Luck stays I don't see him leaving for any NFL job but if he declares he might jump up as well.

Boy wouldn't it suck if after this horrible season we miss out on both Harbaugh and Luck. I would cry hope is the only thing keeping me going right now.

i don't expect that he would tell anyone with a connection to stanford anything different.

if his QB is gone, it would take longer for him to win that nat'l title. just like luck...you have to strike while the iron's hot.

Those are valid points. It would make sense he would talk like that to his employees at Stanford. There still is a decent shot he goes into the NFL, but it may not be as soon as we are guessing. I think he could do great here, I'm just gonna wait it out and see what happens. I also think a lot depends on how Stanford finishes the season.

I never thought Locker was as good as the hype, and I've heard plenty of questions about him (even last year).

Luck though? I've seen enough to be sold. Most of the NFL scouts looking at him need to wear bibs to deal with the drooling.

of course, with Locker you weren't QB shopping at the time either.

To be honest, that's not for this thread anyway, but we aren't. The guy who picked our current rooks, is going to be here next year to pick the guy to coach those QBs. We are young enough in the passing game.

that sounds like something you'd say while on campus, but agreed that he seems principled enough to stay for something like that.

I think it's foolish of many here to make the assumption that Luck and Harbaugh are a package deal. A guy like Harbaugh doesn't have to rely on one quarterback for his professional career just because he coached him in college. A guy like that is ready to make his next QB.

I'd take the "I'm staying" statement more seriously if not for the fact that he interviewed with the Jets last year.

Harbaugh and Luck may not go to the same team, but if the team he does to has the number one pick and isn't locked in on a franchise QB, then I think it happens.

For what it's worth, Gantt predicted Luck as the #1 pick for the Panthers (should they have it). He didn't make it conditional on Harbaugh being the coach.

I think the Panthers Only take luck if Harbaugh is the coach. Witch Seems More and more like it wont happen. There has been alot of talk on this board about about harbaugh and Russ Grimm. In my opinion I like Harbaugh as our coach next year with a good chance just to start fresh he is a good coach at stanford an he has his team playing lights out. The only thing that i wonder about is how he will use the QB system with clausen and with the chance to get Luck. I know that you might not agree with me but I believe Clausen is our franchise QB. Now if we do have the chance to get harbaugh and he brings in Luck thats on him. he is the head coach but Right now just my opinion i would stick with Clausen.

As for Grimm i know he would be a good coach, but to me he is just dont seem like he will be the right coach for the panthers. The panthers is going to need somebody to change the direction of the franchise. Right now i dont know who it is but i dont think Grimm is the guy.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
