CatMan's 10/21 practice observations

Stopped by practice again today, still seems like Moore and Clausen are getting a pretty even number of snaps which makes me think the door is still open for Clausen to take back over.

Passing game still looks rough, seemed like Moore was only able to connect on about 1 out of every 10 attempts. At one point, they were doing 1 on 1 drills with a DB and a WR and they went through 5 or 6 reps before Moore was able to connect with a receiver... Clausen didn't look much better and had a ball picked in the 1 on 1 drill, I was standing a good ways away from the action, but from what I could see the receiver was running a slant and the DB got inside position, but Clausen threw the ball anyways (reminiscent of the pick he threw in the Bengals game on a slant to 89).

Pike and Clausen took turns running the scout team. They had a player out there running around at WR with a red # 15 jersey on which I assume was to mark him as Crabtree. Had a few other guys wearing red and yellow jerseys over their normal jersey, saw a # 20 (Gore) and a # 85 (Davis).

Speaking of Davis, Thomas Davis was out on the practice fields running around today (rehab) and looked good. Didn't see him take any actual reps with the rest of the team.

Didn't see Beason out there today, didn't see him out there last Thursday either... wondering if they're giving him Thursdays off?

Dan Connor had a pick from Moore in his hands but couldn't squeeze it and Smitty bent down and caught it.

Clausen spent some time just taking snaps and handing the ball off to a HB while Moore and Pike were throwing passes in the 1 on 1 WR/DB drills, assume they're working on his fumbling issue.

for some reason the bends from radiohead went through my mind as i was reading about the passing game. it's so horrible. the pressure is just too much for either guy. i don't see either one doing particularly well this year. i'm staying away from moore vs. clausen arguments now because i hate debating over which turd looks better. both smell horribly and stick to your shoes. at least clausen could evolve to something respectable. moore has devolved.

re: davis, was he wearing the brace? he better have been.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
